Talks fail, PG doctors to continue strike
Monday, April 23, 2012: The PG doctors in five government-run medical colleges of the state who began indefinite strike from Monday morning, will continue the strike as the talks with government failed.
Though Health Minister VS Sivakumar said that the government would freeze the order to make rural service mandatory, the doctors said they want to withdraw the order not to freeze it. The doctors called for strike protesting against the mandatory rural service. House surgeons also came out in support of the strike.
Prior to the strike, the doctors held relay strike for one week and during that time talks between the agitating doctors and the government failed to break the deadlock. Though government asked for more time to solve the issue the doctors union had not agreed.
