KANNUR: CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the agitation demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who has been found prima facie guilty by the Vigilance Court in the palmolein case, will be intensified in the coming days.
Inaugurating the ‘Save India Rally’ organised by the DYFI as part of its Independence day programmes at the Town Square here on Monday, Pinarayi Vijayan said that Oommen Chandy could not cling on to power by handing over the Vigilance portfolio to his trusted colleague Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
Chandy’s involvement in the palmolein deal has already come out with the remarks made by the Vigilance Court on the issue.
Coming down heavily on the Congress-led UPA government’s demand to exempt the prime minister from the purview of the Lokpal Bill, Pinarayi said that there was no justification for the demand.
Pointing out that the chief ministers come within the purview of the Lok Ayukthas in the states, he wondered how, at the national level, the prime minister could be placed above the Lok Pal.
The CPM state secretary said that according to the statements made by former Union minister A Raja, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had clear information about the 2G spectrum deal at a every stage of its implementation.
The CPM state secretary said that the Union government should explain why it was taking no action against the big corporates which were the main beneficiaries of the 2G scam.
The CPM and DYFI activists took a pledge against corruption as part of the ‘Save India Rally’. DYFI district president K Santhosh read out the pledge. CPM district secretary P Jayarajan and M V Jayarajan were among those who addressed the gathering.
