Kerala Latest News Breaking news Vs Achuthanandan reply to Ommen Chandi

Wednesday, May 11, 2011: Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan today dismissed as “baseless” the charges levelled by Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy in connection with the land allotment to a relative of VS. Speaking to the reporters here on Wednesday, CM added that there was nothing ‘out of the way’ in the land allotment.

Briefing reporters at the last cabinet meet of the LDF Government, VS Chandy was trying to tarnish his image by raising unnecessary allegations. Land was allotted to my relative T K Soman, an ex-serviceman by the land assessment committee as per the rule brought by A K Antony when he was the chief minister in 1977.

Chandy had earlier sought a vigilance probe into the alleged allotment of land. Talking to reporters here, Chandy alleged that 2.33 acres of land in the northern Kasargod district was given to Soman, an ex-serviceman, at below the market value.

The land was allotted in 2010, with a rider that it could not be sold for 25 years. But this condition was waived, he alleged.

Chandy said he had written a letter to the Chief Minister in connection with this. In the letter, he had demanded to freeze all the dealing pertaining to the land at the earliest, he added.

Achuthandan Reply to NSS Secretory

Wednesday 4 April 2011: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today hit back at an organisation of Nairs, a major caste of the Hindu fold in the state, saying its leader belongs to that category of people who act like “servants of the corrupt”.

He was reacting to the comments of G Sukumaran Nair, acting General Secretary of Nair Service Society (NSS), that Achuthanandan was a leader who did not believe in democracy and often defied his own party to carry on with his autocratic ways.

The Chief Minister told reporters that, “There are two types of leaders in the NSS. One category comprises real leaders. There are also people in the NSS who are subservient to corrupt people(Balakrisha pilla). Nair belongs to the second category.

Nair said the NSS had conveyed through some of the LDF leaders that NSS was not opposed to the LDF as such but had decided to change the “equi-distance” policy to stop Achuthanandan from becoming the Chief Minister again.

Reacting to the statement, Balakrishnan said that the LDF knew “very well” that the NSS’ claim of keeping equi-distance from the two coalitions was just a ploy to mislead people. Meanwhile, an NSS unit office was stoned at Muhammad in Alappuzha district late yesterday. Doors and glass windows of the building were damaged in the attack by unidentified persons.
