Tuesday, August 9, 2011: The Kerala High Court had directed the state DGP to file a report within four weeks giving details of police personnel having criminal antecedents. The report should be submitted to the court in a sealed cover, a Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice S Satheeshchandran said.
The directions were issued on a batch of petitions filed by persons who had completed police training but were yet to be appointed in the force due to pendant criminal cases against them.
The bench also wanted the DGP to give a report regarding the involvement of petitioners in criminal cases. The bench observed that the police officers having criminal antecedents were a threat to the force and society.
