Wednesday, August 24, 2011: MP Veerendrakumar was today elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Press Trust of India (PTI) following the Annual General Meeting of the agency’s shareholders here.Veerendrakumar, who has been Chairman of PTI twice before, succeeds Vineet Jain, Managing Director of Times of India group. R Lakshmipathy, Publisher of Tamil daily Dinamalar, was elected Vice Chairman of the Board.
Veerendrakumar, an ex-MP and former Union Minister, is a former President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS). He has written 18 books in Malayalam, one of which won the Kendra Sahitya Akademy award last year.
Lakshmipathy, like Veerendrakumar, is a leading figure in the media industry. He has been President of the newspaper body INS, Chairman of Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) and a member of the Press Council of India. He runs several educational institutions.
