Union finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in the wake of the economic problems in the US, Today said India’s fundamentals are strong and the country is in a better position than other nations to meet the challenge although there could be some impact.
Talking to media outside the Parliament Pranab Mukherjee, Union Finance Minister, said, “Recent developments in US and Euro zone have injected uncertainty in global markets. These developments could have some impact on India but as India’s growth story is intact and is fundamentally strong, we are in a better position than many other nations to manage this challenge.”
On the other hand Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha taking the situation more optimistically said the present economic crisis could bring new opportunities to India. “I feel that there is nothing to fear due to the economic crisis and the down rating in America. At times the market behaviour is not rational. The crisis in America may bring many opportunities to India, so we need to think in this direction as well.”
Pranab Mukherjee also said that India’s economic fundamentals are sound, and the government would also focus on encouraging greater domestic consumption and giving greater impetus to the drivers of domestic growth.
