Saturday, August 13, 2011: Police has arrested lottery kingpin Santiago Martin in a case related to land grab here on Saturday. Martin, who came to Thirupur police station to register his attendance in connection with another case, was arrested by Salem police. The arrest was part of Jayalalithaa government’s extensive drive against those who grab land by threat or other nefarious means.
Santiago Martin, his manager John Kennedy and eight others are the accused in four cases filed by CBI in connection with alleged irregularities and corruption in the operation of other state lotteries in Kerala. The cases are being investigated by Kochi CBI unit.
Martin has over 50 criminal cases against him and several cases of land grabbing against him.
