Amritha hospital nurses to go on strike from Feb 21

Thursday, February 8, 2012: United Nurses’ Association (UNA) is planning another round of strike at Amrita Institute of Medical Science (AIMS), Kochi from February 21.
According to UNA officials, AIMS management has broken the contract signed in the presence of people’s representatives and government officials. On Monday, the UNA reportedly served notice to the management.
According to the agreement signed by both parties, AIMS management was given a three-month period to implement UNA’s demands, which ends on March 9.
“We accept that they have three month’s time to implement the terms. But they breached the agreement by taking vengeance against nurses who took part in the strike. Many nurses faced harassment from management officials. They cut down our leave. Our salary has not been raised so far.” UNA Ernakulam district secretary Jithin told.
Nurses of Amritha Institute of Medical College began their protest against the hospital management on December 6, 2011 where they demanded wage revision and an improvement in the working conditions. The nurses and the hospital management arrived at a consensus on December 9 last year in the presence of the District Collector and MLA.
The management is being revengeful towards the nurses who participated in the agitation.
