KSU activists clash during organisational polls in Kozhikode
Tuesday, February 14, 2012: A scuffle broke out between the factions led by KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the organizational polls of the Kerala Students’ Union which began here Tuesday.
The elections are being held on regional basis with the first phase on Tuesday covering the northern districts of Kasargod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad. The fight started just 30 minutes before the end of the polls.
Activists of the ‘A’ and ‘I’ factions were shouting slogans before the polls came to an end. When the ‘A’ faction shouted slogans in favour of Chandy, the ‘I’ faction came to the front in favour of Chennithala and K Sudhakaran. The two factions got engaged in a verbal dispute alleging that some bogus votes were exercised.
The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the agitating mob. The activists pelted stones and in between tore the posters also. Some media persons were injured in the attack. The cars of some leaders were damaged.
