MALAYATOOR: The hilltop of Malayattoor pilgrim centre witnessed an unprecedented gathering of pilgrims who climbed the hilltop throughout the day and night on Good Friday.
St Thomas Apostle, one of the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ, is believed to have taken initiative to establish the church at Malayattoor in AD 52.
Groups of pilgrims from various churches wearing special attires reached the pilgrim centre on foot carrying heavy wooden crosses. A mass procession to perpetuate the memory of the ‘Way of Cross’ was also held.
The pilgrims thronged the Thazhathe Pally, adivaram and international shrine on the hilltop. The Low Sunday festival will commence at Malayattoor on April 15.
