P G Haridath's Suicide Note fabricated, CBI officials tell CAT

In a major twist, the two CBI officers who were allegedly named in the suicide note of CBI ASP P G Haridath, have claimed that the suicide note was fabricated. Two Officers - S Unnikrishnan and K K Rajan - disputed the genuineness of the suicide note as Haridath always used to put the date below his signature, but in the suicide note the date was marked on the side of his signature.

According to the two CBI officials, there was no indication in the note even of attempting to commit suicide.

“Haridath used to put the date just below his signature in all the letters. But in the suicide note, it was seen on the side. It was a manipulated one,” said Unnikrishnan and Rajan, who were also members of the investigating team headed by Haridath, which probed the Sampath custodial death case. The two officials submitted a statement before the Central Administrative Tribunal.

Haridath wrote in his suicide note that four persons - Rajan and Unnikrishnan - along with  Kerala High Court advocate Sreekumar and the then Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Vijayan - had forced him to take the desperate step and nobody else was responsible. However, the two said that Haridath’s  statement of his ‘present state’ may only denote his condition of health or the status of the probe in the Sampath murder case.

The duo said that the note was created much before March 15.
