Farmer-friendly budget; no price rise: Mani

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Finance Minister K M Mani has said that the budget presented by him would ensure income for farmers and fair price for farm products.

“The anxiety over the possible price rice is misconstrued. The government has interfered in the market in a way that would do good to farmers. Rs 65 crore has been earmarked for Supplyco and Rs 11 crore for Consumerfed,” Mani said.

The finance minister said: “The budget is favourable to people suffering from fatal disease, orphans and those having difficult living conditions. The increase in auto rickshaw tax comes after 17 years. Through the budget we have unified the tax patterns of petrol/diesel auto rickshaws. Because of that, there is no burden for the tax-payers."

On the other hand, the minister added, the increase in building tax would not affect the common man as it would be applicable to buildings with more than 1076 square feet area.
