CHENNAI: National Green Tribunal has served notice on the Central and State governments over a plea seeking to cancel the Environmental sanction given to the Vizhinjam port project. The bench has also decided to issue notice to Pollution Control board and Vizhinjam Sports Authority. The reply to the notice should be submitted within four weeks.
The petition was filed by activists of an NGO and Joseph, Christopher and Mikel, the natives of Poonthura. In the petition, it was pointed out that the project would create serious environmental problems and the Environment ministry had given the nod without making a proper study.
