CM opposed to ‘insulting’ Royal family

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that he disagrees with any approach that is tantamount to insulting the Travancore Royal family. However, the government will have to abide by the Supreme Court order.

“Sree Padmanabha Swami temple is the symbol of Royal family’s credibility and its belief. It is not the right thing to ‘crucify’ them merely based on some rumours, “ the chief minister said.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said, the order was an interim one and the government will submit a detailed affidavit before the court after taking into account devotees’ sentiments and traditional rituals being carried out by the Royal family.

Former District collector and former Devaswom Commissioner K N Satheesh said he being made the Executive officer was purely God’s decision.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has said that the Supreme Court order was a backlash against the Royal family.
