Bar bribery case: Vigilance Director can supervise further probe, says govt

KOCHI: Kerala government has informed the high court that Vigilance director has the authority to supervise further investigation into the bar bribery case. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal representing the government submitted this point in the high court, when the trial on the government’s appeal against Vigilance court order was going on on Moday.

“The Vigilance director is a part of Vigilance department. Though the Vigilance director had the authority to interfere in the bar bribery case, he didn’t do that. Neither did he give any instruction or recommendation to the officers according to her wishes. And, the final report in the case was prepared by investigation officers themselves,” Sibal argued.

However, the advocate representing Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan held that the government didn’t have the right to question Vigilance court order.
