SABARIMALA: Sabarimala temple opened today for Mandala poojas as the Mandala season begins on Tuesday (Vrichikam 1). At 5 o’ clock in the evening, in the presence of Tantri Mahesh Mohanaru, chief priest Ezhikkadu Krsihna Das Namboothiri opened the sanctum sanctorum and woke the deity from ‘yoga nidra’. Following this, new priests who reached the sanctum sections by climbing Sabarimala hillock were anointed to their official positions.
The chief priests are Kottayam Ayarkkunnam Karakkadu Ellam S E Sankaran Namboothiri and Malikappurathu Thrissur Thekkumkara Edakkanam Ellam E S Unnikrishnan Namboothiri
There are no special poojas today and the temple will close at 10 pm. The temple will open early morning at 3 on the first day of auspicious Malayalam month of Vrichikam. Nirmalaya darshan and Neyyabhishekam will be followed by Ashtadravya Mahaganapathy homam, that marks the beginning of Mandala- Makaravilakku festival.
