Pannian unsure of thumping victory in Neyyattinkara

Sunday, June 03, 2012: CPI state secretary Pannian Raveendran said he does not expect a thumping victory by the Left front in the Neyattinkara by-election.
Addressing the mediapersons here on Sunday, Pannian added that the main reason for that is M M Mani’s controversial statement and the steps following that.
Pannian said he did not react earlier on this due to the Neyattinkara polls. He hopes that CPM would take action against him. He also has no adverse opinion in VS Achuthanandan visit to late RMP leader TP Chandrasekharan’s home.

CPM to take action against M.M Mani

Sunday, June 03, 2012: The CPM Central leadership today confirmed that action will be taken against CPM Idukki district secretary M M Mani for his indiscreet statement that the party had earlier finished off its rivals.
The State secretariat will discuss actions against him. A politburo meeting will be held in New Delhi on May 8.
At a public meeting organised by the party at Thodupuzha , Mani had said the party had prepared a list of “three targets” to be eliminated and it was carried out.
The party had distanced itself from Mani’s speech with its state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan censuring the district leader saying that Mani had committed a ‘grave mistake’ and deviated from the party line.

Police paste summons notice at Mani's house, office

IDUKKI: Police on Saturday pasted the notice issued to CPI-M Idukki district secretary M M Mani asking him to appear for questioning before the SIT at his residence and the party's district committee office.

The summons notice was issued in connection with the case registered against Mani on his controversial speech that CPI-M had eliminated political rivals in the past.

Copies of the notice were pasted before Mani's house and the party office as those in his house and office refused to accept the notices, police said.

Meanwhile, CPI-M state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan took exception to the issuance of notice to Mani, saying it was against the law. The Home department had issued the notice without getting any proper legal advice, he told reporters at Kozhikode.

"The CPI-M will fight such attacks on the party politically and the police action against Mani legally," Vijayan said.

Police said Mani had been asked to appear on June 6 before the special investigation team (SIT) set up to inquire his `revelation,' which embarrassed the CPI-M and caught political circles in the state by surprise.

Police had earlier this week registered a case against Mani on charges of murder, abetment and concealing information based on his speech made at Thodupuzha last week.

Bail plea rejected

THRISSUR: Principal District and Sessions Judge K P Jyotheedranath rejected the bail applications of four directors of Tik Group of Companies in a money chain fraud case. Alex (29), Pratheesh (31), Sanal (25), and Renesh Rajan (29), were arrested in connection with 64 cases involving a sum of Rs 28 crore.

Strict action on atrocities against women

THRIUVANANTHAPURAM: Strict action will be taken against those who indulge in atrocities of any kind against women, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said. He said crimes against women and children are rising in the state in an unprecedented manner. 'This has to be eliminated without delay, he said. The Social Welfare Department has implemented 'Nirbhaya' to create awareness against these kinds of violence and rehabilitation of the victims of violence. 'Only by enforcing strong rules and stern action, the atrocities against women can be reduced. 'Many of them are reluctant to speak out things due to fear. This has to be wiped out by creating awareness, he said.

Homeo doctor killed in accident

ALAPPUZHA: A homeopathy doctor, Mohan, (58), was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a can near Thiruvambadi Junction. The doctor was returning after seeing off his son at the Alappuzha railway station. Though he was rushed to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
