Media trying to divert attention from revelations against Sudhakaran: Pinarayi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A section of the media are trying to divert attention from the allegations leveled against K Sudhakaran MP, said CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. He criticized the media for giving importance to the differences of opinion in the CPM.


Pinarayi said, “I’ve earlier said about the media syndicate but a bigger term should be used now. The press meet called yesterday to demand a probe on the revelations against Sudhakaran should’ve been highlighted. When asked about the party’s role in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case, I just reiterated that the party has no role in it. That ended there. Instead of highlighting the revelation against Sudhakaran, they were keener in stating that there are problems in the CPM. This was their tactic to divert the attention from the revelations against Sudhakaran.”


Pinarayi said if there are problems in the CPM, the party will discuss it and it needn’t be discussed with the media. When the statement of V S Achuthanandan that whether Pinarayi’s sand will be accepted by the people was brought to notice, he just walked off and said I’ve only so much to say.

Court asks Jayarajan to appear for interrogation on July 5

KANNUR: The investigating team sent a notice to CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan asking him to appear on July 5 for interrogation in connection with Shukkoor murder case.


The notice was sent to the office of the party district committee office here. Even though he was asked to appear earlier, he withdrew citing health problems.


The team sent notice to Jayarajan after he visited Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chandrasekharan in jail yesterday.

Kerala Muslim Jama-Ath march to Parliament on July 10

KOCHI: Kerala Muslim Jama-Ath Council said that they would march to Parliament on July 10 demanding various things, including re-drafting the Haj policy, to save the hajees from exploitation by Haj rackets. Talking to reporters here, Jama-ath Council State General Secretary Adv A Pookunju said the march would begin from Kerala House and later culminate into a dharna near Jandar Mandir.


Various Muslim leaders, human right activists and religious leaders would take part in the march, he added. The other demand include approval of Justice Ranganatha Mishra Commission without losing the benefit of SC and ST categories and also inclusion of Muslim community in the OBC category, restarting shipping service for Haj in order to decrease the travelling expense of hajees and regaining the wakf assets besides ensuring social justice to bring the Muslims to the main stream of the society. After that a memorandum would be submitted to union ministers, he added.

Life term for murder

ALAPPUZHA: Alappuzha Principal Session’s Court I awarded rigorous life term to Varghese, 40, of Ezhupunna in the district for killing his wife by setting her on fire. Judge P Somarajan also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Varghese for the murder of his wife Bindu on April 13, 2009. Varghese doused his wife’s body with kerosene and set it on fire. She was hospitalised with 90 per cent burns and died later.

Sreesanth confident of resuming practice soon

KOCHI: Indian Speedster S Sreesanth, who is on rest after twin surgeries on his toes, expressed the hope that he could resume his practice soon. Talking to media men during a private function here, the ace striker said he had not fully recovered from his injuries and expected that he could be in the Indian team by January next. 'I am not in a hurry. This is the first time even I can wear my shoes after the surgery. I am expecting that the routine practice would resume in four months,' he added. Asked about the Indian team, he said India team was a team and there was no importance to individual players. Replying to question about the recent argument with flight attendants on board Bangalore-Delhi flight, he said it was not with him but his friend, and the captain apologised to him after the incident. The cricketer from the Gods Own Country received the 'Son of Kerala' award instituted by the All India Conference of Intellectuals.

Girls sweep top ranks in KU B.Sc. examinations

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Girl students swept the first ranks of the BSc examinations of the University of Kerala, the last of the regular annual stream courses—the results of which were published here on Saturday. Of the 14 first ranks, 12 were bagged by girls. The first rank in Mathematics was shared by four students.


Of the 6,698 students who wrote the examinations, 3,801, passed with a first class, 1,099, with a second class and 461 with a third class. The pass percentage is 79.59. In 2011, the pass percentage was 76.25. The highest pass percentage was for Biochemistry--93.80. The lowest pass percentage was for Polymer Chemistry-59.7. The highest number of students- 1,485 appeared for Mathematics. The results are available at the University web site www.keralauniversity.ac.in. Applications for revaluation and scrutiny could be submitted till August 1. The mark lists would be despatched to the respective centres by July 20.
