A V Thamarakshan, JSS leader quits party

ALAPPUZHA: A V Thamarakshan, one of the state secretaries of the Janathipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS) has quit the party. Announcing the decision here, Thamarakshan said that he was quitting in protest against the policies of the UDF government and not because he had any differences with JSS chairperson K R Gouri Amma or the party. He said that he had asked the party leadership to sever ties with the UDF, but it did not heed his call. Thamarakshan said that the CPI (M) was the only political party in the state now that was really secular in its outlook and this was the reason why communal and religious fundamentalist forces were targeting the CPI (M). He said that he did not wish to join the CPI (M). K R Gouri Amma told reporters that when Thamarakshan joined JSS, it was in the UDF fold. “If he did not have any objection then, I am perplexed as to why he is raising the issue now,” she said.

Modi seeks action against M M Mani

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today slammed Kerala CPM over CPM leader M M Mani’s statement boasting killings of political opponents on the order of the party. Mani in his statement also said that the party will continue to do so.


With Indian Express copy in his hand, Modi Sunday morning in a meeting of Gujarat BJP’s morcha leaders expressed surprise over such an open statement by a political leader of a party that is not in power.


Kerala CPM’s state committee member and Idukki district secretary M M Mani in his address to a party function on Friday said the CPM would kill those who deserve to be killed.


Mani in his speech which is caught on tape boasted, “At Shanthanpara village in Idukki in 1982, the party had prepared a list of 13 persons to be killed after a CPM worker was killed. The first person on the list was shot to death. The second was stabbed to death and the third was beaten to death. By then, worried Congress workers escaped. Then home minister Vayalar Ravi was useless.’’ Mani said Congress worker Balan’s murder was in revenge for the death of local CPM leader Ayyappadas.


Mani further said, “We have a habit of killing and getting killed. So do not try to threaten the CPM. Those who work against the party would be eradicated again. The party does not have any qualms in owning up the murders it had committed,” he said. On Saturday, Mani stuck to what he had said in the public meeting. “It is true that we had killed some persons.”


Reacting to this, Modi in his address to party workers today morning said, “where are the human right organizations? Are they sleeping or what?”


Modi briefed the party workers that as many as 250 RSS workers have been killed in Kerala, the state where there’s not a single elected member of BJP.

CPM ‘censures’ Mani for controversial speech

 Sunday, May 27, 2012: CPI-M in Kerala today virtually censured its Idukki district secretary M M Mani for his controversial speech in which he stated that there had been instances of the party eliminating political rivals.
As the party is faced with deep embarrassment over Mani’s utterances at a public meeting, CPI-M state Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today said Mani had committed a “mistake” and his speech was a “deviation” from the party’s political line.
Mani’s speech had sparked a raging political row in Kerala with the Congress and BJP saying it exposed CPI-M’s “politics of violence”. His statement had come at a most difficult time for CPI-M in the state as it was on the defensive with some of its activists arrested in connection with the murder of party rebel and RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan.
Addressing reporters here, Vijayan made a strong call to party cadres, leaders and functionaries to refrain from making controversial statements at a time when the party was under a grim attack from its enemies.
Vijayan said the party had grown over the years resisting attacks from various quarters, but countering violence with violence was not the policy of CPI-M.

Deploy central forces at Mullaperiyar: Jaya to PM

Sunday, May 27, 2012: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Sunday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to deploy central forces to protect the Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala.
In a letter to Singh, she warned that if the Kerala government persisted with its “recalcitrant” attitude and if the Centre did not deploy CISF personnel, Tamil Nadu police would be stationed to guard the dam.
She said the vertical holes were drilled as part of the core stability test ordered by Supreme Court appointed Empowered Committee headed by justice AS Anand to study the safety aspects of the century-old dam, over which Tamil Nadu and Kerala are locked in a dispute.
It was necessary to fill the holes before the onset of the monsoon so as to prevent any damage to the dam, located in Idduki district of Kerala but under the control of Tamil Nadu.
However, the Kerala government had been preventing Tamil Nadu officials from closing these drilled holes, in spite of the clear directions given by the Empowered Committee and the matter was taken up by her government with the neighbouring state but to no avail, she said.

MM Mani’s controversial speech: Police collects recording

Sunday, May 27, 2012: Police on Sunday started preliminary investigation into the controversial speech delivered by CPM Idukki district secretary M.M Mani.
The follow up action will be decided after a thorough evaluation of the speech. Meanwhile, Mani himself has expressed regret over the speech.
Mani, a senior functionary of the party had said there had been instances of the party eliminating its foes. Mani’s speech came at a time when the party is on the defensive with the arrest of some of its activists in Kozhikode and Kannur districts in connection with the murder of Marxist rebel and RMP leader TP Chandrasekharan.

Mani’s revelations should be probed, says M I Shanawaz

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The home department should be ready to investigate on the sensational statements of CPM Idukki district secretary M M Mani, said M I Shanawaz. A detailed investigation should be conducted on the three political murders revealed by Mani. The issue will not end by apologizing, opined Shanawaz.


CPM Idukki district secretary M M Mani had yesterday revealed that they’ve killed the enemies of CPM. A hit list of party enemies was prepared and each of them was executed in that order, he said.
