THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan , who is at loggerheads with the CPM, was snubbed at the commemoration meet of E M S Namboodiripad. He was not permitted to deliver his customary speech at the function held at the EMS Park in the assembly grounds.
For the past 16 years, the party state secretary and VS used to give speeches at the function. This time only party secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan gave a speech. Though VS came prepared to deliver the speech, he was not invited for it. The function was presided over by district secretary Kadakampally Surendran.
P Ramachandran Nair joins CPM
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: P Ramachandran Nair, who left the CPI following disciplinary action in connection with the controversial payment seat, is all set to join the CPM.
He has given a letter to the district leadership seeking his inclusion in the CPM. The party leadership has decided to consider his demand.

Chaos in Assembly: Sivadasan releases photos
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In reply to 141 photographs released by Jameela Prakasam MLA, purportedly showing she being attacked, Sivadasan MLA has come out with new photographs of the March 13 events in the Assembly. At a press conference here on Thursday, he showed women MLAs indulging in mayhem in the Assembly.
Sivadasan said: “Jameela Prakasam has been my colleague for the last four years. I have treated her as my sister and friend and I have never misbehaved with her physically or made any lewd gestures at her. I am of the opinion that everyone has the sense to identify their father, siblings or friends…”
He said what he heard was the kind of allegations that would devastate any man. “I have not attacked Jameela. Even after she finished biting me, I didn’t utter a word. Somebody at my back side pushed me on to her and it was not done intentionally and hence I could not control my movements.”
Exhibiting the photos of Jameela throwing black cloth at the chief minister and throwing newspaper at the finance minister, he said the UDF had not complained against the act. “Following the dramatic scenes in the Assembly, my house was attacked and in the attack my wife was injured. Besides that, Opposition party members created noises and spoke abusive languages in front of my Ranni house where my 95-year-old mother-in-law is staying alone,” he said.
Pipe bursts again in Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pipe burst at Pottakkuzhi along the Pattom-Medical college road. The damage has happened in the same place where it occurred the last day. After minor repairs, the water connection was restored on Thursday morning. As the pipe burst again, the traffic through this area was partially disrupted.
Water authority officials has said that the aged pipes had resulted in the bursting of the pipe. In Pottakkuzhy, the pipe had burst in three places the last day and big crater-like ditches had formed in three places. Though a bus had fallen into one of them, about 50 passengers inside the bus were luckily not hurt

Supernumerary posts to be created
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The cabinet Wednesday decided to create supernumerary posts in the vacancies reported till June 30 in the wake of the expiry of the tenure of the existing rank list and report to the PSC.
Briefing reporters after the weekly cabinet meet, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy
said though supernumerary vacancies will be reported, permanent appointments will be made as per enduring vacancies.
The government had extended the tenure of the rank list of LD clerk. However, in the wake of the new list, a situation has come that it is unable to extend the tenure of the LD clerk lists. It is heard that the tenure of these lists will expire this March 31.
The vacancies reporting after that cannot be filled from this list and so the supernumerary posts are created so that a person in the rank list will not lose a chance. Vacancies till June 30 will be reported to the PSC.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The congress will only contest in the Aruvikkara seat lying vacant after the demise of G Karthikeyan, said UDF convenor P P Thankachan. Talking to the media after the UDF meeting, he said the chief minister has been entrusted to decide the deputy speaker in the assembly.
After evaluating the situations, the congress will field a contestant in Aruvikkara, who has a good chance of winning. The contestant is not decided by ‘A’ and ‘I’ groups. The RSP is a part of the UDF. They will cooperate with the Front in a good manner and move forward, he said.
Party spokespersons meet will convene on March 20 in the wake of Pandalam Sudhakaran’s controversial statement. The meet will be convened by KPCC chief V M Sudheeran. A decision was taken to convene the full meet of the UDF on April 4. A political campaign will be conducted against the LDF on April 26, he said.
