Decision on reducing pvt bus fares next week: Thiruvanchoor

KOTTAYAM: Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said decision regarding the reduction of private bus fares on the lines of the reduction of KSRTC ordinary bus fares would be taken in the next week.

He said the government had asked the private bus owners to reduce the fares proportionately to the reduction effected in KSRTC bus fares. “The decision will be taken within February 25 and we presume the private bus operators will heed to our demand,” the minister said.

KSRTC ordinary bus charges had been brought down to Rs 6 from Rs 7. The new fares will come into existence from March 1. All fares of ordinary buses will come down by Rs 1.

Black flags shown to CM

KOTTAYAM: DYFI showed black flags to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in Kotttayam. They protested when the chief minister came for a public function at Pambady in the district.

The police later removed the activists from the place.

Fire breaks out in Kozhikode


KOZHIKODE: A major fire broke out in front of Nadakkavu Bismi Super market on Saturday after the generator there blasted. But no casualty was reported. The fire was subdued by fire force personnel after half an hours’ toil.

The assessment on the loss of money from the incident is not yet made. As the diesel from the generator had leaked and flowed into the oil, the telephone cables also was gutted, according to sources.                                           .

The initial examination showed that a short circuit and high temperature were the reasons for the fire.

Venjaramoodu Sasi leaves RSP to join Kovoor’s group

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: RSP State Committee member Venjaramoodu Sasi has left party. He said he would join the RSP-Leninist led by Kovoor Kunjumon.

Kovoor Kunjumon had only recently resigned as MLA, quit RSP and formed the new RSP.   

Formerly, Venjaramoodu Sasi was CPI district secretary. Following the controversy over Thiruvananthapuram CPI seat during the last Lok Sabha election, Sasi walked out of the CPI and joined RSP.

I’m interested in contesting polls, says Sebastian Paul

KOCHI: I am interesting in contesting the assembly polls, said Left fellow traveler and political observer, said Dr Sebastian Paul.

If the party demands I will surely contest, he said. I am not keen in contesting from Ernakulam.

I want to contest either from Kochi or Thrikkakkara, he said.

Three sitting CPM MLAs may contest again from Capital


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are hints that three sitting CPM MLAs are likely to contest again from the Capital. They are B Sathyan from Attingal, Koliyakkodu Krishnan Nair from Vamanapuram and V S Sivankutty from Nemom . The party is planning to make the above three leaders their candidates in the upcoming Assembly elections, though discussions in this regard is yet to happen.

The party foresees the victory chance for these three candidates. So they feel that there is no need for denying seats to them. The party attempt is to prepare candidates’ list, giving emphasis to the inclusion of new faces, youths and experienced leaders.  

District Secretary Kadakampally Surendran is likely to be in the poll fray and in that case, he will be fielded from Kazhakoottam. Other names of probable candidates doing the rounds are Party State Secretariat member Anathalavattom Aanandan, T N Seema M P, State Committee member Aanavoor Nagappan, former Mayor K Chandrika, B S Rajeev, Advocate Ben Darwin, IB Satheesh, C K Hareendran and K S Sunil Kumar.
