Sunday, August 7, 2011: Bus fares in Kerala would go up from today midnight. The minimum charge of ordinary private buses has been increased from Rs 4 to Rs 5 and in the case of fast passenger services from Rs 5 to Rs 7. The distance of the first fare stage has also been increased from 2.5 km to 5 km for ordinary and fast passenger buses. There is no increase in the fare concession for students.
Government took the decision based on the report of the committee appointed by the previous LDF government that looked into the various demands of the Bus Operators.
