Tuesday, February 14, 2012: Security has been tightened in Kochi city, nearby Fort Kochi and Mattancherry areas following yesterday’s explosion in Delhi in which an Israeli diplomat was critically injured.
Police patrolling has been strengthened near the Jewish synagogue in Mattancherry, police said.
Anti-sabotage commandos have also been kept on standby in case of any eventuality and the Bomb Squad and Quick Response Team alerted, they said.
Security has also been tightened at Fort Kochi where an Israeli Rabi and his wife, who have been ordered to leave the country within 15 days, are staying, sources said.
Shneor Zalman and Yaffa Shenoi had come to Fort Kochi in 2010 and were staying in a rented house. The Ernakulam District Collector had recently ordered their deportation, which they have challenged in the Kerala High Court.
