Computers to be distributed to schools


To make information and communications technology more accessible to students and make learning more comprehensive and interesting, more than 1000 computers will be distributed to schools in the district as part of the ICT project of IT@school. This will also help improve the standard of education.


The distribution of ICT equipment to government and aided schools in the district was inaugurated by district panchayat president Eldose Kunnapally at IT@ School, Regional Resource Centre in Edappally on Thursday.



The gadgets - 382 desktops, 799 laptops, 100 multi-function printers and 94 3KV UPS and 210 projectors will be distributed at the centre on July 6 and July 7 to 255 high schools, 124 higher secondary schools, 33 VHSEs and two special schools.


With this, students at these schools can become more IT savvy, said Joseph Antony district coordinator, IT@School project. The project which was implemented in upper primary schools last year has been expanded to lower primary schools this year.


Training has been imparted to majority of teachers. There are 13 master trainers, around 400 school IT coordinators and joint coordinators and about 900 student IT coordinators are leading the IT@School activities.


Ernakulam district has retained the overall championship in the state school IT festivals. Another first for the district is the ‘School Wiki’ portal which offers details of the general education in Malayalam.


About 2500 students were given special training in making animation films and around 1800 students were given hardware training.


With the support of Corporation, four short films were made by students which were aired on Victers channel.


Experts from Bangladesh, Male, Sri Lanka and Nepal visited various schools in the district.
