‘Postings in sports quota to be made available online’


Sports Minister K B Ganeshkumar  said that appointments made under the sports quota would be made available online and guidelines have been formulated to implement it. ‘’This would ensure transparency in appointments so that public can also view the matters online,’’ he said.


He was speaking during the distribution of cash awards for national and international sportspersons by the Kerala Sports Council held at Kerala University Senate Hall here on Thursday.


He said that major part of administration in sports councils and departments would be entrusted with sportspersons. He said that with Thursday’s distribution of cash awards the government had cleared all dues related to sports awards till March 2012. Cash awards worth Rs 5.78 crore were distributed on Thursday.


The minister also said plans are afoot for infrastructure development in sports sector. Rejecting allegations with regard to his proposed visit to London Olympics, the minister countered that the former government had disbursed more than Rs 6 crore of Sports Council to various agencies.


Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who distributed the cash awards, said that deserving sportspersons would be appointed in government jobs. Already 103 persons have been appointed in this regard.   Sportspersons including arm-wrestler Jobi Mathew, table tennis player Maria Roni and athlete M A Prajusha were presented cash awards.


Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Amit Mallick, Kerala State Sports Council president Padmini Thomas, Kerala State Sports Council secretary P S Abdul Rassak,  Kerala University Vice-chancellor A Jayakrishnan and sports dignitaries were present.
