NEW DELHI: The estate owners’ stand against implementing the revised increase in wages is a challenge to the workers, said CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Talking to reporters here, he said the owners are accountable to implement the things mentioned in the deal made with the government, he said.
If the owners have decided to withdraw from the deal, then strong protests will be staged by the CPM. The party promises all support to the workers, he said. The revelation of the owners that they entered in a deal with the government to support them, is quite serious. The chief minister should clarify whether he had assured to withdraw from the deal, asked Kodiyeri.
Even the houses of the workers are not fit to stay. The government should take immediate steps to renovate it. Though an amount has been earmarked for it in the budget, a single penny has not been spent for it. Lapses were seen from the side of the government on it, he said. Only one percent of the workers say that they will not partake in the strike staged by political parties. Only a section of 3.5 lakh workers take a stand like this, he said.
