THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a hurriedly called press conference following the high court remarks against Finance Minister K M Mani today, CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan demanded his resignation. “If Mani plans to continue in minister’s chair, the Left will set off a groundswell of protests for his resignation,” he said.
“Mani has lost his eligibility to remain a minister. He is challenging the rule of law by continuing in power. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is also demeaning the legal system by protecting Mani. The court’s remark that not only Caesar but also his wife should be clean is applicable to Chandy, as well,” he said, adding, the money expended from government treasury for bringing in expensive advocate to argue Mani’s case should be taken from him. People’s tax money should not be used for the purpose.
CPM Politburo member M A Baby also demanded that not only Mani, but Chandy also resign from his post.
