Mani seeks party’s support, differences of opinion in KC

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The statements made by the Kerala High Court against Finance Minister K M Mani in the bar bribery case has created severe differences of opinion in the Kerala Congress. At a time when Mani is seeking the support of the party, a section led by Minister P J Joseph is adamant on his resignation. Mani is of the stand there are no serious statements against him in the court’s order and so there is no need to resign.

However, leaders of Joseph group claim that if he continues in the ministerial berth it would lead to serious consequences. The statements of the court are quite serious. The Joseph Group have decided to demand his resignation at the party’s steering committee meet. Leaders opined that if he resigns, Chief Whip Thomas Unniyadan and Joseph should also resign. They can support from outside the government. However, Joseph is not keen in giving up his ministerial berth.

Meantime, Thomas Unniyadan said Mani need not resign as the court has not found him guilty. Only the court’s observations were exposed and it can change at any time. A decision will be taken jointly by the party, Unniyadan said.
