Alappuzha: Chief minister Oommen Chandy has given direction to hand over the probe of Sreya's death to CBI. Complaints were raised against the probe conducted by the crime branch. It was on October 16, 2010 that Sreya was found dead in the pond of Accept Kripabhavan. Sreya who came to attend a camp as part of Sunday school, went to bed along with other children and was found dead the next day in the pond. When the body was fished out of the pond there were injury marks on her lips and cotton was found in her nose. Police stated it as death due to drowning.
