DYFI, ABVP activists lay siege to Calicut Varsity

 Thursday, April 26, 2012: Several activists belonging to the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) laid siege to the Calicut University as a protest against the alleged land scam.
The scandal pertains to an aborted move by a section in the University administration and syndicate to assign vast tracts of land forming part of its central campus to some private trusts with academic and sporting interests.
Following the allegations Calicut University syndicate had decided to annul its land allocation to some private trusts with academic and sporting interests, which opposition alleged headed by Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) ministers

DYFI, UDF activists clash at Vettithara

KOCHI: DYFI and UDF actvists clashed following the election victory celebrations at Vettithara near Piravom on Thursday.
The incident occurred when a group of Kerala Congress and Congress activists reached the Harijan Colony, which was a CPM stronghold, to celebrate the UDF’s victory in the bypoll.
Police officials said that one person in the group made obscene gestures to the residents here.
In retaliation to this, a DYFI member attacked the person.
The injured person has been identified as Sasi and he is admitted in the Government Hospital in Piravom.
The police have registered a case in the matter.
