I’ll not light the lamp, says Minister Abdu Rabb

MALAPPURAM: There is no change in my stand that I will not inaugurate any function by lighting the lamp, said Education Minister and Muslim League leader P K Abdu Rabb. My predecessors League leaders have never lit the lamp, he told reporters here.  

Many senior leaders had expressed divergent views on it.

I am following the same path as that of my predecessors. I’ve not been isolated on the issue and I am not upset on it, he said.

Muslim League state secretariat member E T Muhammed Bhasheer had earlier stated that the IUML would continue with its convention of not lighting lamp at public functions.

Meantime, Minister Dr M K Muneer had rejected ET’s stand. He said the party had not taken any official decision either in favour or against the practice.
