Mani, P J Joseph to decide jointly on resignation
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Congress (M) entrusted Finance Minister K M Mani and party working chairman P J Joseph to take a decision on the former’s resignation. Talking to reporters after the steering committee meet held in the capital city, C F Thomas MLA said they discussed in detailed the present political scenario. The party’s decision will be announced here today itself, he said.
When asked whether Mani would resign, Thomas said a favourable decision would be there. To another question whether his resignation would be announced by the UDF, he said the party’s decision would be there separately.

Mani, Chandy, come down heavily on George
KOTTAYAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Finance Minister K M Mani came down heavily on the statement of Chief Whip P C George that the Kerala Congress (M) is in the mid-sea. Reacting to it, Mani said the party is not in the mid sea and is very firm in the land. It was George’s personal opinion and he does not owe a reply for it. The statements of George are not the policies of the party. As per his style, he just blabbers. The party meeting attended by George did not seek my resignation, he said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The demand for Finance Minister K M Mani’s resignation following bar bribery controversy has been gathering momentum over the past few months. Kerala Congress high power committee which was convened on Thursday to discuss the present scenario in the party saw heated arguments between Mani and Government chief Whip P C George.
George alleged that Mani had cheated him after assuring him a minister’s post. Mani had also said that the party would have three ministers. On the other hand, Mani rebuked George for issuing reckless statements about Mani and his son, “Who is he to demand my resignation. George should avoid making controversial statements,” he said.
As if to placate Mani, George then said that he would not allow Mani to resign and whatever he said was his personal opinion. “I had fallen prey to media’s provocation… I didn’t mean to hurt anyone or conspire against any one,” George said,.
It was Geroge’s close associate T S John who had demanded Mani’s resignation. “Mani should have resigned when the bar controversy broke out. If Mani was reluctant to resign alone, others could have joined him,” he said in the meeting, while Joseph group chose to remain silent.
However, a decision was taken in the meeting by the party members to fight unitedly against bar bribery controversy. PC George said after the meeting that Mani himself would present the budget and a bar owner’s allegation can’t destroy the UDF.

KC(M) to stand by farmers against encroachments: Mani
There is no question of the Kerala Congress, as a responsible party, approving of land encroachments anywhere in the state but at the same time the party will not allow the interests of genuine farmers to be sacrificed, Kerala Congress supremo and Finance Minister K M Mani said here on Tuesday.
He demanded that the UDF committee on Nelliampathy should be reorganised in the wake of the resignation of M M Hassan from the post of convenor and that the report should be submitted without delay.
Speaking to mediapersons after an emergency leaders’ meet of the Kerala Congress (M) to take stock of the situation following the Nelliyampathy estates’ issue and the role of party vice-chairman and Government chief whip P C George in the controversy, Mani said that George had given an undertaking at the meet that he will tender an apology including to the Dheevara Sabha if his words had hurt anyone. “That does not mean that George had committed any wrong. It is a responsible response of a political party,” Mani said. Mani said that the UDF panel on Nelliampathy will look into the merits of the case.
“The Kerala Congress will stand by the broad interests of the state. There is no question of approving any illegal encroachments. I’m not arguing the case of any individual. I’m not a party to the case. We do not have any per-conceived notion nor do we have anything to hide. This is the crux of the party’s stance on the Nelliampathy issue,” he said. On whether George will apologise to T N Pratapan MLA and settle the current controversy, Mani said that George had informed him and other leaders that he had no ill-motive nor had he insulted anyone while airing his views.
