THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Jacob Thomas need not step down from the post of vigilance director, decides the CPM. This decision was taken at the available secretariat attended by party general secretary Sitaram Yechury at the AKG Centre Wednesday morning. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan attended the secretariat.
If he is permitted to step down, it would be a negative impact for the government. Removing Thomas, who has not done anything wrong, will not give a good message, pointed Kodiyeri. The chief minister too was of the same opinion.

No fund-raising campaign for Mani, says CPM
The CPM on Monday denied reports that the party was involved in a campaign to raise funds for helping former Idukki secretary M M Mani to fight legal battle in the Supreme Court. “There is no need for the party to go on a fund collection campaign to help Mani to meet the expenses in the court. The party had made it very clear earlier itself,” CPM Idukki district secretary K K Jayachandran MLA said.
The party will decide about fund collection if need arises, Jayachandran told . He added that the party was prosperous enough to meet such expenses. The clarification comes in the wake of reports that the party was not able to make enough funds as expected.
Meanwhile, the party sources said the legal expenses at the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court were much lower than expected.
Mani had filed two petitions challenging the police against conducting further probe in the Youth Congress leader Anchery Baby murder case, which was settled by a court many years ago. Though the petition was rejected by the court, another plea challenging the police against lodging a second FIR in the same case will be taken up by the SC in the coming days.
Third degree methods used against arrested, says CPM
KOZHIKODE: The police are using third degree methods against the leaders arrested in connection with the murder of T P Chandrasekharan, alleged Elamaram Karim. Addressing a press meet here, he said a march will be staged to the Vadakara Rural SP Office for fabricating cases against the CPM leaders.
The attack against the CPM leaders reminds us of that of Rajan who had a harrowing experience during emergency at the Kakkayam camp. The police are taking statements of C H Ashokan and K K Krishnan after torturing them physically and mentally. Latest reports say that Ashokan has been shifted to a hospital after the torture.
Action will be taken against the media for carrying wrong news in the case. The party centre is not a place to conspire murder cases. A noted daily is trying to blemish the image of the party by carrying untrue news.
Meantime, DGP Jacob Punnoos said that no third degree methods are used against anybody in the T P murder case. The investigations are conducted in a clear and scientific manner.
WikiLeaks’ revelation not a ‘big issue’, says CPM
Wednesday, August 31, 2011: Declining to be carried away by the controversy over the WikiLeak’s revelation of the CPM leaders meeting US diplomats and discussing investment possibilities when in power in Kerala, party’s state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan today said it was not a “big issue” as the party had a clear stand on foreign investment.
PM should own up responsibility for scams, says CPM
Sunday, August 7, 2011: The CPM today demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh own up responsibility for the corruption scandals plaguing his government including on 2G and KG basin issues, but stopped short of asking for his resignation.
“The role of Prime Minister in the scandals involving the 2G spectrum distribution and KG basin is questionable. He must own up the responsibility,” CPM general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters at the end of the two-day party central committee meeting here.
