ALAPPUZHA: KPCC president V M Sudheeran has requested the Governor to intervene in the incident at Kerala High Court in which media men were threatened and hounded away from its premises recently.
“The lawyers are acting like goons towards media persons. The incident that took place recently at the high court had shocked Kerala. The government’s silence and irresponsibility have been an impetus to the lawyers to block media persons and threaten them. Action should be taken against lawyers who show criminal behaviour, The government should urgently step in to restore media freedom,” he said.
Blaming the government for above incidents, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said the Opposition would not allow the government to kill press freedom.

Case against K Babu a part of political vengeance, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC chief V M Sudheeran who earlier took a stand against former minister K Babu in the bar bribery case, has now come forward supporting him in the disproportionate case. He said the case against Babu was part of a political vengeance. The vigilance has not been able to produce proofs convincing the people, he said while briefing the decisions after the KPCC Political Affairs Panel.
A delay occurred in reacting against Babu as I waited for more clarity. I didn’t want to react in a haste. When asked whether he supports Babu, he said that he has stated everything.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala who spoke later too supported Sudheeran. The party decided to react after discussing in the UDF and the stand of Sudheeran is right, he said.
When asked about the exposure of the clippings of Babu’s wife transferring evidences from his locker, Sudheeran said that it was to cover the lapses happened by the vigilance.

Train fare hike: Kerala should protest unitedly, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The stand of the railway ministry against withdrawing the increased train fare hike introduced in the Rajadhani, Shatabdhi and Duronto trains at the busy time is a challenge to the public, said KPCC chief V M Sudheeran.
Long distance passengers are suffering the burden paying 50% high rate from the normal rate. The main victims of this decision are the Keralites staying in other parts of the country. This Tuglak style cannot be justified. Instead of arranging more trains during busy times, the passengers are being exploited and this act of the railways cannot be accepted at all. The people of the state will stand unitedly and protest against the anti-people policies of the railways, he said.

Saumya case: More evidence should be presented, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president V M Sudheeran has said the government should be prepared to present more evidence in the Saumya murder case. The culprit should get maximum punishment in the case as prescribed by the law. He said this after inaugurating the State committee meeting of KPCC Vichar Vibhag on Friday.
“In the Supreme Court, there was serious flaws from the part of advocates. Govinda Chamy is cruelty personified and if he doesn’t get maximum punishment, it will be the failure of judiciary. The advocates who had won the case in the trial court were removed from the case, when it reached the Supreme Court. The new advocates who argued the case also didn’t do the homework properly. The responses seen yesterday were the mind of mothers in Kerala. The LDF government which came to power guaranteeing women’s safety should urgently intervene in the case. They should also discuss the case again with the lawyers who won the case in the trial court,” he said.
Sudheeran criticised the chief minister for allowing SFI students to block the traffic in the name of Onam celebrations yesterday and ridiculed that it happened just under the nose of a chief minister who had banned Onam celebrations in Secretariat.
Palode Ravi, Vijayan Thomas and Nedumudi Harikumar were also present on the occasion.

A group in CPM leaving Communism to join Criminalism, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president V M Sudheeran has remarked that a group of people in CPM have left Communism and taken to Criminalism. At a press conference, he said that group had been converted to criminals.
“In Kerala, law and order situation has gone haywire. Atrocities towards Dalits are on the rise. Congress activists are attacked. Under Pinarayi’s rule, CPM activists are getting justice, leave alone Congress activists’ case,” he said.

Congress high command to take final decision on list, says Sudheeran
NEW DELHI: The party high command will take a final decision on the candidates list, said KPCC chief V M Sudheeran. There is no change in the directions forwarded to the high command over the selection of candidates. The high command had paid heed on everyone’s opinions. I hope the high command will take an appropriate decision, he told reporters here.
I don’t have any hostility towards any person or persons. I forwarded some suggestions for the good of the party. The congress activists even if they oppose are entitled to accept the final decision once the list is announced. As the chief of the KPCC, I am entitled to execute the decision of the high command. The polls in the state are crucial as the party has to be strengthened at the national level. I tried to prepare the list by including the best candidates of winnability. I also tried to include new faces, he said.
A delay in announcing the list is not good. The candidates can begin their campaigning only if it is announced. The high command is likely to announce the list soon. The party is moving forward with the aim of a second term. The priority of the UDF is to seek the people’s mandate against CPM’s politics of violence and BJP’s communal politics, he said.
My name will not be there in the list to be announced by the high command. I had informed my stand not to contest the polls to AICC general secretaries Mukul Wasnik and Ghulam Nabi Azad soon after the end of my Janaraksha Yatra.
In reply to a question, he said T N Prathapan MLA has not written a letter for Kaipamangalam seat. There is nothing wrong in Muslim League interfering in the problems of the congress as they are an integral part of the UDF, he said.

Final candidates list of Congress by month end, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The final list of candidates of the congress will be ready by the end of this month, said KPCC chief V M Sudheeran. Election committee meet is being convened on March 23. Talks with allied parties’ will be completed at the earliest. Talking to reporters here, he said the list set after considering the names directed by DCC’s will be soon handed over to AICC.
The congress has not voiced for the Thiruvambady seat. The regional leadership and the Thamarasseri diocese voiced the demand on the candidate. The priests have brought to the notice some difficulties amongst them. It will be discussed with the league and a solution acceptable to all will be taken.
The response of the chief minister in the Methran lake issue is satisfactory. The scheme was there at the time of the LDF Government. Due to strong protests, they were not able to move forward with it. The then agriculture minister had opposed it. However, many in the cabinet including industries minister supported it. The project has no relevance now and so we opposed it.

Opposition meeting governor unnecessary, says Sudheeran
KOLLAM: KPCC chief V M Sudheeran said the opposition calling on Governor Justice P Sathasivam to appeal him not to deliver the customary policy address to the assembly ahead of the budget session, is an unnecessary thing.
Talking to reporters as part of his Janaraksha Yatra, he said the opposition should cooperate with the assembly procedures. The government is willing to discuss any matter in the assembly. There are chances for the government as well as the opposition to present their stands and for it the opposition should cooperate with the assembly procedures, he said.

CM to decide Mani’s return, says Sudheeran
MANJERI: In the wake of the vigilance submitting a report giving a clean chit to former minister K M Mani in the bar case, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will take a decision on his return to the cabinet, said KPCC chief V M Sudheeran. Talking to reporters in the district as part of his Janaraksha Yatra, he said with the report submitted, the arguments of the bar owners have turned to be false.
The CBI has not requested the court to hear the argument on the revision plea at the earliest in the SNC Lavalin case. As they adopted a cold stand, the government requested to consider the case quickly. BJP’s statement in the Lavalin case is noted. Whey the BJP, who earlier sought a CBI probe in the K T Jayakrishnan Master murder case is keeping silent now, asked Sudheeran.

Nothing unusual about Veerendra Kumar sharing dais with Pinarayi, says Sudheeran
KASARGOD: KPCC president VM Sudheeran has said there was nothing unusual about JD (U) State President M P Veerendra Kumar sharing dais with CPM Politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan.
At a press conference held at Kasargod on Monday before setting out on his Jana Raksha yatra, Sudheeran said sharing the dais by the leaders would not bring any political change. “Everyone knows the style of Pinaryi, who has criticised Veerendra Kumar. Pinarayi trying to correct his mistake is a good thing. It is also good to see leaders of political parties sharing daises,”
Sudheeran said the Congress workers should put aside small issues and move forward with the goal of election success and continuity in governance. “Janaraksha yatra will bring in some good, useful changes in Kerala politics. It is the Congress party that takes strong stand against communalism. It was we who first said that Vellapally is working against the Sree Narayana dharma. The party had taken a strong stand in this regard. At the national level Congress is on comeback path,” he said.

Sonia’s speech was appropriate for venue, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPUURAM: KPCC president V M Sudheeran has said Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s speech at Sivagiri mutt was appropriate for that venue. She spoke realising the importance of the place. Sudheeran said this in response to SNDP Yogan General Secretary Vellapally Natesan’s comment that Sonia Gandhi had made Sivagiri mutt the venue for her political talk.
‘Vellapally has no right to criticise Sonia’s speech as she had made a befitting speech. ‘Doctor treat yourself’ – this is what I have to tell him. In his entire life, Vellapally has never spoke realising the mood and sanctity of the venue. He is even oblivious of his organisation and the post he is holding in it.
Meanwhile, Sudheeran has said DCC office-bearers who doesn’t work for the party will be removed from the party. The matter will be examined after the Jana Paksha Yatra

Discussion with UDF allies successful, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAN: KPCC president V M Sudheeran has said that the discussion held by the Congress with its UDF allies was a success. “The discussion held in the presence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi has benefitted the UDF. The party will ensure complete inner unity. No activity that will spoil the unity will be allowed,” said Sudheeran at a press conference held jointly by Congress leaders.
Sudheeran said the Congress will strengthen the ties with UDF allies and will start election work with a common goal in mind. ‘Janaraksha Yatra’ to be led by the KPCC president will begin from Kasargod Kumbala on January 4 and will end in Thiruvananthapuram on February 9.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala were the other main participants in the press conference.
Sudheeran and Oommen Chandy, however, agreed that there were flaws in UDF’s approach to the Civic polls. Chandy said success of Jana Raksha Yatra and united approach for winning the Assembly election were the need of the hour. He also added there was no bargain in the party over chief ministerial candidate.
Ramesh Chennithala said the main mission of the UDF would to ensure continuity in governance. For that, the party activists should burry their differences and work unitedly.

Modi should apologize for insulting R Sankar, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC chief V M Sudheeran Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to tender an apology for making untruthful remarks on R Sankar. He should apologize to Sankar’s family and to the people of the state. Talking to the media, he said by making such remarks Modi has stained the dignity of the PM’s post.
Modi’s statement that Sankar has connection with Jana Sangh, the old form of the BJP, has twisted history. This is like insulting R Sankar. Modi and the central leadership jointly excluded the chief minister from the unveiling ceremony of the statue of R Sankar. The political game of the BJP will not take place if the chief minister is in the dais and that is why the chief minister was excluded from the function.
Sudheeran said he doesn’t think that there is any legal disruption in moving the case against Vellappally Natesan forward. I expect action will be taken without looking anybody’s face. I will give statement against Vellappally. Law is applicable to Vellappally and it will take its own course. All are equal before law, he said.

Allegation against CM a political conspiracy, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPUARM: KPCC chief V M Sudheeran has come to the fore supporting Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in connection with the serious allegations levelled against the latter by solar case accused Biju Radhakrishnan. The allegation against the chief minister is suspected to be part of a political conspiracy, he said.
Sudheeran said allegations of this kind should not be encouraged. As there are no proofs for the allegations, the chief minister need not resign. The allegations should be proved before the public. Let the solar commission find the truth and after that the opposition can respond. The reply of the chief minister in the Assembly is appropriate, he said.

Congress is not for horse trading, says Sudheeran
THRISSUR: KPCC chief V M Sudheeran asked not to assure support in local bodies by promising authoritative posts for rebels. The congress will not support horse trading and have strictly directed not to join hands either with the CPM or BJP.
The steps taken against rebels who contested local polls will not be re-examined. Has strictly directed the concerned DCC’s not to encourage the method of bringing rebels by offering posts.
Government’s liquor policy favoured the UDF in the Aruvikkara bypolls. The criticism that the closure of bars was a setback is totally baseless, he said.

Accepting people’s verdict, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF was not able to accomplish the expected win in the local body polls, said KPCC chief V M Sudheeran. Talking to the media, he said the party is accepting the people’s verdict.
Sudheeran said, “The UDF attained a severe defeat in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The party will look into the matter in detail and try to understand the cause of defeat more deeply. A comprehensive and truthful scrutiny is needed on the defeat. Will evaluate whether there have been any lapses in campaigning and in the selection of candidates. This failure will not reflect in the assembly polls.”

Sandal issue should not be made a controversy, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The incident of making a driver remove sandal should not be made a controversy again, said KPCC chief V M Sudheeran. Talking to reporters here, he said in the wake of the speaker explaining the incident, it is not right to make a controversy again.
The speaker’s explanation should be taken into confidence. When a person of high post says about his physical strain, it should be accepted, Sudheeran said.

I feel sympathy for Vellapally, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: I feel sympathy towards SNDP yogam general secretary Vellapally Natesan for his unsavoury statements against me, said KPCC chief V M Sudheeran.
Sudheeran said statements are made as per one’s culture. Reacting to the criticisms levelled by Vellapally, Sudheeran said it is not the style of the congress to insult anyone personally. But whatever has to be said will be stated in a good manner, he said.
The communal forces are not going to succeed in their effort to grow its roots in Kerala. Congress do not believe in negative politics. Only the congress fought against communalism, he said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC chief V M Sudheeran Wednesday said decisions including the removal of consumerfed chairman is being taken for the good of the party. I’ll go forward with such decisions, he said while talking to reporters.
Sudheeran said, “The problems in the party can be solved here itself. There are no problems as cited by the media. The people are watching everything and party activists know everything. One should try to raise the self-confidence of activists.”

Headgear controversy unfortunate, says Sudheeran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reacting on the headgear controversy on Sunday, KPCC chief, V M Sudheeran said the decision of the authorities not to allow the nun to write the examination was 'unfortunate'.
"The decision went against the Constitutional right given to citizens to preserve their faith and follow (religious) practises," he said in a statement.
"The central government should take steps to avoid these kind of moves that would hurt the sentiments of the faithful," he said.
Meantime, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that he will react after studying the issue. How could I react on a thing unknown to me, he asked.
