Major fire in north Delhi market

Friday, June 01, 2012: Around 400 godowns and residential buildings suffered damages early this morning when a major fire broke out in a market area in north Delhi, fire brigade officials said.

No one was injured in the blaze that was reported from Sadar Bazar area at 1:07 AM.

Twenty-five fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire which managed to bring it under control by 3 PM.

“Around 350-400 residential buildings and godowns were damaged in the fire,” the officials said.

Lady doctor hacked near Thrissur; one held

Friday, June 01, 2012: A lady doctor working at a private hospital in Thrissur was hacked near the hospital premises on Friday morning.

The injured has been identified Tinku Edwin, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, police told. Tinku, who sustained several injuries to her face and body was immediately admitted to the hospital where she underwent surgery.

The police have arrested one person identified as Rafi in connection with the incident. On further interrogation, Rafi confessed that he had attacked the doctor allegedly for not attending him while he came to the hospital for treatment. Police suspect that Rafi is mentally unstable.

Jagathy unable to identify people, say doctors

 Friday, June 1, 2012: Veteran Malayalam actor Jagathy Sreekumar, who was gravely injured after he met with an accident at nearby Tenhipalam on March 10 is still unable to identify his friends and relatives as his brain is still not responding.

Jagathy Sreekumar, who is now being treated at CMC Vellore is finding it very difficult to recognise people around him. The actor’s right side was paralysed after the accident.

Doctors hope that since his right side has begun to move, this movement will gradually pass on to the rest of his body as well and then the actor will regain his ability to speak. Moreover, all outside wounds have been healed and his body has begun responding to medication.

Facebook selects Kerala IT company as preferred marketing developer

KOCHI: Kreata Global, an IT company headquartered at Kerala's Kochi Infopark campus, has been selected as a Facebook preferred marketing developer (PMD), said an infopark official.


The PMD programme aims to better represent the various technologies in the Facebook ecosystem and to recognise companies that develop holistic solutions.


Kreata is just the second Indian company to be picked for the programme. It has qualified for the PMD badge in the apps category for building socially enabled integrations.


Infopark chief executive officer Gigo Joseph said, "It is an honour for an IT company to be chosen as a Facebook PMD."


The Facebook PMD programme also endeavours to help developers build products that make social marketing easier and more effective.


Deepan Parameswar, executive director, Kreata Global, said they were really excited about becoming a Facebook PMD.


"This is definitely going to be an inspiration for developing more engaging and innovative apps," said Parameswar.


The company that was formed in 2010 has developed engaging Facebook applications for popular brands such as Ford, Panasonic, Samsung, Levi's, Clarins and Parachute.

Body found

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A body of an old man was found on the heap of metal loaded for tarring the roads in the city near Sreekanteswaram. The body was wrapped in a cloth. Top police officials and forensic experts have reached the spot.


The body in a blue shirt and lungi was noticed when the workers tried to remove the metal. A foul smell was emanating from the place. The contractor engaged in the work said the metal was loaded two weeks before.


Police commissioner T J Jose, Shanghumugham assistant commissioner K S Vimal, Thampanoor circle inspector Sheen Tharayil, Fort circle inspector Suresh Kumar have reached the spot.

CPM not against freedom of media, says Pinarayi

KANNUR: The CPM is not against the freedom of media, said party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan. Talking to reporters while attending a programme in the district, he said the media is criticizing the party in connection with the murder of T P Chandrasekharan.


Pinarayi’s response came soon after V S Achuthanandan made a statement disapproving party action against media.


The media is haunting the party in connection with the murder of TP. There is nothing wrong in moving the court against them. The party approached the court as per the earlier verdict of the Supreme Court. CPM Idukki district secretary M M Mani has not gone underground and had contacted me yesterday and today, he said.


Pinarayi said the UDF is trying to woo voters by offering money. UDF candidate Selvaraj’s wife is wooing voters by offering money. She along with some UDF activists went with bank forms for granting loans. Some staged protests when money was offered and stopped them from the act. They were taken into custody and now Selvaraj’s wife is undergoing treatment at the hospital saying the LDF attacked them.
