THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPPC president Ramesh Chennithala has come out against Jail DGP Alexander Jacob, criticising him for his stand on the Facebook controversy.
The DGP had said that there was no evidence to show that the TP murder case accused used Facebook and mobile phones in jail. “The DGP talked like a CPM spokesperson and his statement was totally unacceptable. The party has conveyed its disapproval to the home minister,” Chennithala said

The government has also reached a strong decision to remove the DGP from his post and it is known that the home minister will take a decision regarding this after meeting the chief minister.

Anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela dies at 95
JOHANNESBURG: Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first elected black president and a global anti-apartheid icon has died early today aged 95, President Jacob Zuma said.
“Fellow South Africans, our beloved...the founding president of our democratic nation, has departed,” Mr. Zuma said in a nationally televised address.
He passed away peacefully at 20:50 (local time), December 5, Zuma said.
“He is now resting. He is now at peace...Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father,” he said.
Mandela will have a state funeral. Zuma ordered all flags in the nation to be flown at half-mast from Friday through the funeral, the BBC reported.
Madiba, as Mandela was fondly known, had been battling health issues in recent months, including a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalisations.
Friends and relatives of the ailing statesman had gathered yesterday, at his Johannesburg home where “democratic South Africa’s founding father” was said to be on his “deathbed“.
Daughter Makaziwe Mandela, in an interview to national broadcaster SABC, had said, the 95-year-old world leader continues to fight against the ailments ravaging him.
Grandchild, Ndaba Mandela, on Thursday had also lamented Mandela’s ill state.
Mandela was admitted to the Pretoria Heart Clinic in June, where he was treated for a recurring lung infection before he was released to receive home-based care nearly three months later.
At the time there was a outpouring of love and concern for the elder statesman from around the world. However on Thursday, it was quiet outside Mandela’s Houghton home, where a slew of specialist physicians were attending to his health.
Last month, Mandela’s ex-wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela said he was no longer talking “because of all the tubes that are in his mouth to clear (fluid from) the lungs”.
Mandela, who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead South Africa out of decades of apartheid before becoming the country’s first black leader, had faced several health scares.
His most recent hospital stay spanning over three months was his longest since he walked free in 1990.
Mandela is widely respected for his role in fighting racism in South Africa, and for forgiving his former white captors after his release from prison.

SC orders to shift Madhani to Manipal Hospital soon
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court Monday ordered to shift PDP chairman Abdul Nazar Madhani, jailed in the Karnataka jail in the Bangalore blasts case, immediately to Manipal Hospital in Bangalore for treatment. The court said his bail plea will be considered once his health condition improves.
If by any chance treatment is denied by Manipal Hospital then he should be admitted to Government owned Victoria Hospital.
Meantime, the court said his bail plea will be considered only after his health condition improves. The court said priority is given to his health.
The court directed to arrange a room for Madhani with tight security. The Karnataka Government should bear the hospital expenses of Madhani. The government will be in charge of the security provided to him. His family members will be permitted to meet him during treatment.
In the meanwhile, Kerala informed the Supreme Court that they are willing to provide security to Madhani if bail is granted to him.

People have faith in VS, says Aryadan

Why observing hartal, asks CM
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government’s stand is to implement the Kasturirangan report keeping apart the Gadgil committee report in connection with the protection of the Western Ghats after holding talks with everybody and remove the anxiety from the minds of the people, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Chandy said the draft notification has not been released yet. The states opinion will also be heard. In this situation, why is the LDF observing this hartal, asked Chandy? The state has lost Rs 900 crore in this hartal.
Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan had earlier demanded to implement the Madhav Gadgil Report. He was the only one political leader who raised the demand and now the hartal is observed with his support, blamed Chandy.
