‘Jagathy', the second most-tweeted word

KOZHIKODE: Help was at hand from an unlikely source when veteran actor Jagathy Sreekumar, was in need of blood after suffering serious injuries in a major car accident on Saturday. Authorities of the MIMS hospital where Jagathy had been admitted sent out word in the morning that the actor needed blood belonging to the AB+ group after an urgent stomach surgery. Within minutes, people logged on to Twitter and tweets and retweets were sent urging people to donate blood and specifying the number to call at the hospital.
The barrage of tweets and the ensuing discussion was so big that ‘Jagathy Sreekumar’ became  the fourth most discussed term in the nation on Twitter by noon, leaving behind other trending terms like ‘Rahul Dravid’ and ‘Akhilesh Yadav’.
Doctors who are treating Jagathy confirmed that more than enough donors came forward within a short period of time. “We had no problems finding blood for Jagathy as numerous people came forward,” said Dr P P Venugopal, who is leading the team of doctors treating Jagathy.
