KOLKATA: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and the party should not be seen separately, said CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechuri. Talking to reporters after the politburo meet ahead of the CPM plenum starting tomorrow, he said VS is also part of the party.
If the CPM has a role in the victory seen in the local body polls held recently in Kerala, then VS is also a part of it. VS is a senior leader respected by the party. VS and the party should not be seen separately, he said.
When asked who will lead the assembly polls in Kerala, he said one need not be young, age and experience are the main factors. There are no restrictions in the case of age. The state faction will hold talks on front’s expansion.
Yechuri said that has not come across the statement of Pinarayi Vijayan that Muslim League is a secular party.

VS, community’s annihilator: Vellapally
KOLLAM: SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellapally Natesan has come out with harsh criticism against Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan. He has said VS is a person who spells doom for his community… a destroyer of the community. VS has been pushed to the third place in his party.
He made the above comment on Thursday in between his Samatwa Munnetta Yatra which had reached Kollam.
Vellapally alleged that CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan’s foreign trip was just to mobilise fund for the party.
In another context, he said: “It is certain media groups that have been trying to portray me as anti-Muslim. All cases of the SNDP are being argued by Muslim advocates. If I had been communal, only Ezhavas or Nairs would have conducted our cases.”

VS, women MLAs meet Governor
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan asked Chief Minister Oommen Chandy whether he is not ashamed to say that the opposition LDF used women as ‘suicide bombers’. Those of the same opinion should read the autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji had stated that men and women are equal.
Talking to reporters after meeting the governor along with women MLAs, VS said that he has requested him to direct the government to register a case against ruling MLAs.
Didn’t Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi lead a march to the Rashtrapathi Bhavan and to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s house supporting him in the coal case? Do we call them suicide bombers? Some want Priyanka Gandhi to replace Rahul Gandhi and should we address her as a suicide bomber. The concern of the chief minister towards Saritha S Nair, accused in the solar case, was not seen in the case of the women MLAs, he said.

Take steps to help victims: VS
Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan has said that immediate steps should be taken to help the victims of torrential rains and landslides in north Kerala. Eight persons died in the flash floods and landlsides in Kannur and Kozhikode districts. There were complaints that the disaster management efforts were not up to the mark, Achuthanandan said.
Even though the Pazhassi dam had been overflowing for over two days, it has not been possible to open the shutters resulting in widespread damage and destruction. There are also apprehensions about the stability of the dam. The help of the Navy should be sought if the situation required, Achuthanandan said.
He demanded compensation for the relatives of the persons who died as well as for those who lost their property and crops.
VS, Pinarayi feud puts CPM leadership in tight spot
Sunday, May 13, 2012: The open assertion of Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan against party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has put the CPI(M) and central leadership into a tight spot with the question how to tackle gross indiscipline from the senior most leader staring at them.
Braving disciplinary consequences, Achuthanandan had yesterday lashed out Vijayan for calling Marxist rebels like T P Chandrasekharan, who was murdered recently, as “betrayers and renegades”.
In a party that prides itself in its internal discipline, democratic centralism and obedience to hierarchy, open rebellion by anybody, however mighty he or she might be, in normal circumstances would be met with disciplinary action.
But according to political observers, in this case the leadership is unlikely to rush to any drastic action as Achuthanandan continues to be a very popular leader though he has lost much of his grip on the organisational set-up.
On his part, analysts believe, the 88-year-old leader is unlikely to move to the extreme step of splitting the party as it would be pretty tough for him to remain in the centrestage by floating a new outfit with the support of the Marxist rebels who had left the party or expelled over the years.
Vijayan has reacted to the development in a cool and circumspect manner calling upon his supporters not to further vitiate the atmosphere by provocative reaction.
