KOLKATA: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and the party should not be seen separately, said CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechuri. Talking to reporters after the politburo meet ahead of the CPM plenum starting tomorrow, he said VS is also part of the party.
If the CPM has a role in the victory seen in the local body polls held recently in Kerala, then VS is also a part of it. VS is a senior leader respected by the party. VS and the party should not be seen separately, he said.
When asked who will lead the assembly polls in Kerala, he said one need not be young, age and experience are the main factors. There are no restrictions in the case of age. The state faction will hold talks on front’s expansion.

Make VS’ vigor, a role model, says Yechuri
NEW DELHI: All including me should make opposition leader V S Achuthanandan’s vigour our role model, said CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechuri. There is no retirement age for leaders in the party. This is applicable to all including VS, he said while briefing the decisions of the central committee meet.
VS was given a seat after denying it in the beginning in the last assembly polls. Yechury’s words bring hope as the elections are nearing.
VS is 92 years old. He is still active in party activities. His vigor should be made a role model and if it is so, then the party is expected to strengthen more. The victory of the LDF in the local body polls is not only because of the leadership of VS but was a joint effort. If the party continues this unity, then the party can easily assume power in the next assembly polls, Yechury said.
The increase in the votes of the BJP is a cause for concern. However, no leak has been witnessed in our votes. The votes of the congress have leaked to the BJP, he said.
