Army in Kashmir should be given more freedom, says Antony
NEW DELHI: The army in Jammu and Kashmir should be given more freedom, said former defense minister and congress leader A K Antony. The attack witnessed in Uri is a serious security lapse. In such circumstances, army should be given the freedom so that they can decide what should be done. The government has not learnt a lesson from the attack in Pathankot, he said.
The terrorists have obtained the support of the Pakistan Army. Terrorist activities against India with the help of Pakistan Army has been increased recently. This first happened in Pathankot. This is the first in the history of India camping there for days and conducting the attack, he said.

Main opponent is BJP, says Antony
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Congress leader A K Antony and AICC working committee member A K Antony has said the real opponent for the UDF in the coming Kerala Assembly election is BJP.
Taking part in the election programme organised by Kesari Memorial Trust, Antony said a Cabinet without the presence of the BJP should come into existence in Kerala.
“If BJP opens is account in Kerala, the communal harmony existing in the State will get disturbed. Secularism should be cared like the ‘iris of one’s eye’. Danger is hidden in BJP’s election campaign. Arrival of the prime minister and union ministers together is an indication of this danger. The Congress has not, however, befriended Communal forces,” said Antony who also alleged that RSS was trying to trigger communal tensions.
The former defence minister said “the CPM has been trying to get at least 10 additional votes. Corruption is different from allegation and CPM’s development policy lags by 25 years.”

Solar case: I feel sympathy for opposition, says Antony
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Congress leader and AICC working committee member A K Antony has come forward supporting Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on the allegation levelled by solar scam accused Biju Radhakrishnan. I feel sympathy for the opposition for taking over the allegation raised by an accused of a criminal case. Talking to reporters here, he said the people will take the words of the accused only in that way.
Antony said the allegations against the chief minister are totally baseless. Biju had alleged that the chief minister had sexually exploited Saritha S Nair, another accused in the case. The media should study before taking over the words of the accused, he said.
The new party floated by the SNDP is not a threat for the UDF. The attempt to create communal polarization in Kerala will not win. The UDF suffered a setback in the local body polls due to over confidence, he said.

Defeat not shocking, says Antony
NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader A K Antony has said that he is not shocked by the UDF’s terrible defeat. At the same he said he was saddened by the unexpected defeat.
Antony was speaking at a short press conference held soon after the Civic poll results came out in Kerala.
“The reason for the poll debacle will be examined in detail. Some political undercurrents have taken place. I don’t understand still what has happened…may be it could be a backlash for the over confidence the UDF would have acquired through repeated victories in the past,” he said.
When asked whether, the Vigilance court verdict in the bar bribery case was a reason for defeat, Antony said the UDF had to examine the undercurrents during the few weeks ahead of the election to know about it.
The Congress leader also added that in wake of the election defeat, the UDF need not hesitate to change its stand, if necessary, in future.

Inaugurating the valedictory function of the golden jubilee celebrations of secretariat staff association, Antony asked government employees to take the initiative and come forward to eradicate corruption.
Corruption is not decreasing instead it is increasing in all sectors. It can be seen in government, local self-governing sectors, appointment of teachers in private college and in admission of students. No department can be singled out. The government should have their own stand in corruption cases against ministers. Corruption is the cancer of our society. With

Don’t ever think of fishing in troubled waters, says Antony
NEW DELHI: The present problems in the congress in Kerala is only a small ripple in a teacup, said congress working committee member and former union minister A K Antony. Nobody should ever think of fishing in troubled waters in the present scenario of the party.
Talking to reporters on his 75th birthday in Delhi, he said the leaders of Kerala are capable to solve the problems. Whatever disputes occur, the leaders unite whenever there is a problem in the party. If all the leaders move jointly, the UDF government will be able to retain power in the state. ‘Congress free India’ is only BJP’s day dream. My tenure in the Kerala Politics is almost over, he said.

PATHANAMTHITTA: The union defense ministry has not given permission for the proposed airport in Aranmula, said Minister A K Antony. The aviation ministry just gave a no objection certificate with strict conditions.

Antony said it is the dream of the CPM that a third front will assume power after the polls. The party will get only a dozen seats all over the country.

No reshuffle and no change in leadership, says Antony
KOCHI: Defence Minister A K Antony, speaking to reporters here Sunday, ruled out a change in the leadership of the party or the government in the wake of the recent solar scam.
"Let me make it very clear that there is not going to be any change in leadership here. It's quite natural that controversies break out in governance. The need of the hour is to learn from what has happened and be very vigilant," Antony said, adding that he was no judge, and would not issue a verdict on the conduct of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his government.
When reporters prodded him, Antony only said: "I am not a judge to hand out a verdict."
Chandy has been facing an onslaught from the opposition as well as from sections of the media, as print and TV channels have been relentlessly airing views and news on what has come to be termed the "solar scam".
"The CPI-M should be patient, as a probe is currently on. In all fairness, they should wait till it is over. What they are doing now is not correct," Antony told reporters.
The government has ordered a probe into the dealings of Saritha S Nair and her live-in partner Biju Radhakrishnan, who are currently under arrest for having defrauded several investors on the promise of providing solar panels at subsidised rates. The telephone call records of Saritha Nair showed that she had been in regular and frequent touch with members of the chief minister's personal staff.
While one member of the chief minister's staff has been arrested in this connection, two others have been sacked. The opposition has held that Chandy and his family are involved in the scam.
Chandy faces flak not only from the opposition and the media, but also from detractors within his own party, some of whom have maintained a low profile, reluctant to come to the chief minister's defence.
"This is the time when the party should not only defend but also launch a counter attack. Sadly, though, neither is happening," said a top Congress leader.

No change in government over solar scam, says Antony
KOCHI: Coming out in support of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Congress leader A K Antony Tuesday ruled out any change in the state government on the solar panel scam issue.
Antony said the opposition CPI (M) led LDF has been making allegations against the chief minister, which has crossed the "lakshman rekha".
"There is no political crisis in the state. None need to think that there will be a change of government', the Defence Minister, who was in Kerala to attend the funeral of his sister at Alappuzha, told reporters here.
'When the solar allegations cropped up, the government had ordered investigation. Let the investigation be over. There are laws and courts. The investigation process is going on. Now the opposition is unleashing violence and trying to force the chief minister to resign. That will not happen. There is no political crisis', he said.
The funeral of Sister Infant Teresa (80), eldest sister of Antony, was conducted yesterday.

There will be no outbursts in Congress, says Antony
KANNUR: There are no problems in the congress which cannot be solved, said Defence Minister A K Antony. Talking to reporters here after holding talks with Congress leaders, he said nobody should expect an outburst in the congress.
I hope the problems of the state will be solved amicably. The congress leadership and the government are capable for that. The state leadership had earlier solved problems worse than this and if suppose the state leadership cannot solve it, then the central leadership will intervene. Congress is not only a state party, he added.
It is quite natural that these types of problems occur, but in a grave situation like this, everybody will stand together and rectify it, he said.
