Bars are still open in Kerala, says Kanam

KOCHI: The bars are still open in Kerala and have not been closed, said CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran. The closure of bars is just virtual.

If 15.2 lakh cases of liquor were sold in November 2015 then in December 17.8 cases were sold. The Left Front will form a liquor policy after examining all these, he said at a press meet.

The LDF has not gone after Saritha and if it was so, then we would have been accused in the case. As per reports, UDF MLAs are accused in the case.

No special agitations planned against Mani, says Kanam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI is not planning any special agitational programmes against Finance Minister K M Mani, who is facing graft charges in the bar bribery scam, said the new state secretary Kanam Rajendran. As the Left Front has planned the agitational programmes, we are not doing anything, he said.

Kanam said the budget presentation by Mani will be against the interests of the state. A decision on the protests to be staged will be decided at the LDF meet to be convened on March 6.

Kanam said he will reach the capital city on March 6 to attend the LDF meeting. As a first step, steps would be taken to strengthen the CPI. The party will be strengthened at all levels. In reply to a question, he said all political parties are entitled to obtain the chief ministerial post.

I was chosen unanimously, says Kanam

KOTTAYAM: I was chosen unanimously as the CPI state secretary, said Kanam Rajendran. Talking to the media, he said the central leadership suggested his name for the post. The name of K E Ismail was also voiced but however, he informed that he is not in the fray and so the lot was for me. Factionalism is not saying differences of opinion openly. All issues are over and the party will move forward collectively, he said.

Meantime, some leaders raised my name for the post, said K E Ismail. I informed them that I am not in the fray. Kanam was chosen for the post as per the deal made with the central leadership, he said.
