VISAKHAPATNAM: The CPM’s 21st party congress which begins Tuesday will offer the communist party a new sense of direction, said general secretary Prakash Karat. Talking to reporters here, he said all arrangements for the party congress is almost complete.
Meantime, politburo member Sitaram Yechuri said that he is in the party not wishing for a post. I will take over any responsibility handed over by the party. All directions will be complied with, he said. Representatives from various states have reached Visakhapatnam to attend the meet.

Central committee rejects VS’ complaint, walking out from state meet ‘wrong’, says Karat
NEW DELHI: The central committee Sunday rejected opposition leader V S Achuthanandan’s complaint seeking cancellation of the resolution passed against him by the CPI (M) state faction.
Meantime, the issues of the state have been referred to politburo commission, said party general secretary Prakash Karat. The act of VS walking out from the state meet in Alappuzha was wrong and it cannot be accepted; Karat told reporters after the central committee meet. VS will continue in his present post till the commission submits the report.
VS’ letter dated March 6 was examined by the politburo and was sent to central committee’s consideration.Some of the things raised by VS were discussed by the politburo and discussed in other state levels also. The central committee was of the opinion that there is no meaning in discussing it again. VS’ letter sought the cancellation of the resolution passed by the CPM state meet and ouster of two party leaders in connection with the TP murder case.
However, the central committee dismissed it after putting it in vote.

Strike was ended not on settlement basis, says Karat
NEW DELHI: The strike staged by the LDF seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the solar case was ended not on any settlement grounds, said CPM general secretary Prakash Karat. Addressing the media, he said there are no differences of opinion either in the party or in the LDF.
Karat addressed the Secretariat siege as a historic strike.He said the problem will not end with the judicial probe and will continue agitations for his resignation.
Karat refused to respond on questions related to SNC Lavalin case.But on repeated questions, he said the E Balanandan Committee was not entrusted to study Lavalin deal. They reviewed about the basic problems of the power sector.

Chandy should resign if he has any commitment to people, says Karat
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Demanding resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy over the solar scam, CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat Monday said the Congress was setting a "shameless" standard of not accepting responsibility for "what is happening right under its nose."
Addressing a massive gathering of Left Democratic Front workers, who laid a siege in front of the Secretariat here, Karat said Chandy should step down from office if he had any accountability to people.
"Congress has set shameless standards to see that their leaders are not accountable for what is happening in their ministries and offices," he said.
While there were instances of Chief Ministers and Union Ministers resigning on moral grounds earlier, the party had now stooped to low levels to protect corruption.
The Congress-led government in Kerala had called the Indo-Tibetan Border Police to protect a Chief Minister, who was facing allegations of corruption. "They are supposed to protect the borders in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
Former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda said only an impartial probe by a judicial commission led by a High Court judge could come out with the truth on the solar scam and the chief minister should step down to make way for such a probe.
"The government cannot move ahead with an undeclared emergency all the time in view of the people's struggle. At least Chandy should step down to come out from the tangle," Gowda said.

VS to continue as opposition leader, says Karat
NEW DELHI: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan will not be removed from the post of opposition leader, said CPM general secretary Prakash Karat.
Briefing reporters here, he said many issues including the removal of VS had appeared before the central leadership.
There is no need to explain more on it as politburo’s decision was reported by the media, Karat repeatedly asked about it.
The politburo had approved the action against the personal staff members of VS. When asked whether they should resign, he said they are only party members and is not part of any administration.
The investigation conducted by the party in the murder case of T P Chandrasekharan is almost complete. As the case is under the consideration of the court, more cannot be revealed on it.
A six-member panel consisting of politburo members has been appointed to examine the allegations levelled by VS. No time frame has been fixed to submit the report, he said.
Investigating report on TP murder case not in agenda, says Karat
NEW DELHI: The investigating report of the party in connection with the murder case of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan is not in the agenda of the politburo meet convened here on Friday, said CPM general secretary Prakash Karat.
Talking to reporters here, he said action against opposition leader V S Achuthanandan should be decided by the politburo.
Politburo member Sitaram Yechuri had yesterday stated that if anybody voices about the party report of TP murder case, then the PB will discuss about it.
In the meanwhile, the personal staff members of VS gave a letter to VS. By taking disciplinary action against VS, they are aiming him. The letter stated that those leaking news are still active in the party.
Action against VS aides in next CC, says Karat
KOLKATA: Action against the three personal aides of opposition leader V S Achuthanandan on the charge of leaking out party information to the media will be discussed in the next central committee meet, said CPM general secretary Prakash Karat.
The state leadership of the party had decided to take action against the three. Karat said that even though the report seeking action against the three was submitted for approval, it was not discussed in the central committee.
Briefing reporters after the central committee meet, Karat said the party had announced earlier that a probe would be conducted. More details on it cannot be revealed now as the case is under the consideration of the court.
Thwart attacks against party, says Karat
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat Wednesday asked the party cadres to remain with the masses and adhere to basic organisational and ideological tenets to thwart the attacks against the party from its opponents in states like West Bengal, Tripura and Kerala.
Inaugurating a one-day seminar to mark the birth centenary of Communist stalwart and CPI(M)'s founder general secretary P Sundarayya here, Karat said the party's opponents have been mounting a grim attack on CPI-M in the states by levelling false charges.
Recalling the services of Sundrayya in building the Communist movement, Karat said, "Today we have grown to be a mass party and we have to be always with the people and identify with their aspirations."
He said it was important to streamline the organisation based on the Leninist principle of democratic centralism and rectify wrong trends like placing the individual interests above the party.
Sundarayya was one of the pioneers who recognised the importance of building a party based on the democratic centralism to carry forward the revolutionary movement.
He said Sundarayya made tireless efforts in building a centralised all-India party by bringing together the Communist groups in different parts of India.
Senior party leader V S Achuthanandan, CPI (M) Andhra Pradesh unit secretary B V Raghavulu, politburo members Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and M A Baby presented papers on various facets of Sundarayya's contributions, while CPI (M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan presided.
