KUTTIPURAM: In a ghastly incident, a 25-year-old-woman committed suicide by setting herself ablaze after strangling her one-and-a-half-year-old-twins at Kuttipuram in Malappuram. The woman has been identified as Jazeena (25), wife of Fazal of Kuttippuram. After strangling her twins Farzana and Farhan, who were sleeping in the cradle, she entered the bathroom with the petrol and set herself ablaze. Her husband was at home at the time of the incident. Though he rushed to her hearing the cries, her body had caught fire. She was declared dead on reaching the hospital.
The reason for the suicide is not known. Her body has been shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Further step will be taken in the presence of the RDO. The bodies of the children have been shifted to a private hospital in Walancherry. Fazal is an auto driver of Kuttippuram railway station. The couple has an elder son also.
Two including minor involved in theft held
THODUPUZHA: Two migrant labourers including a 17-year-old boy were arrested today in connection with the case in which a couple was attacked and robbed of gold and cash in Thodupuzha on Uthradam day of Onam.
The two persons were arrested in the morning in Palakkad and they were taken to Thodupuzha police station.
Meanwhile, the police are proceeding with their search for Odisha natives Ramesh and Chinku, the first and second accused respectively.
Thodupuzha’s prominent businessman, petrol pump owner Prakash Krishnan Nair’s son Krishna Vilasam Balachandran (Balu 58) and his wife Sreeja (51) were attacked by miscreants on the day before Thiruvonam.
The robbers entered the house past midnight, overpowered the couple, tied up their hands and stole Rs 1.75 lakh, four sovereign gold and two mobile phones.

No obstacle in arresting anyone, says Pinarayi
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There are no hurdles for the police to arrest the guilty, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He said this in reply to the question of a letter sent by additional chief judicial magistrate to assembly speaker seeking permission to arrest Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran.
The magistrate sent the letter as the minister, an accused in many criminal cases failed to appear before the court. Criminal cases were registered against him during the tenure of the previous government. Notices were sent many times asking him to appear in the court. As he failed to appear, letter was sent to the speaker and he in turn has sought legal advice. It is hinted that he has obtained legal advice that permission is needed for the arrest only if the session is on.

Vapour from cooled food creates panic in Moovatupuzha
Moovattupuzha: Milky vapours rose from a sardine fish curry even after a day of cooking, panicking locals. The incident took place at the house of Salim Ibrahim, Kochuparambil House near the Cental Juma Mazjid at Ward 2, Pauipra Panchayat.
Ibrahim's wife had cooked the fish curry for lunch and the family had dined on it too. They first observed vapours rising from the cooled down curry towards evening. The family grew frantically worried when they saw the same milky vapour escaping the curry even the next day morning.
Ward Member Naseema Sunil reached the spot and a crowd started building up with curious people reaching Ibrahim's house. The Food Inspector was informed but refused to come citing it was a Sunday. The road at Payipra junction got blocked due to the continuous visitor traffic.
The matter grew grave and the RDO and the District Collector were also informed of the incident. The police also reached the spot. Locals raised a demand asking the authorities to raid the shop from where the fish was purchased. Despite the choking concern of food safety, the Health Authorities postponed the raid to Monday.
The locals who consumed fish purchased from the same centre are all doing good so far but the concern whether any chemical preservative component was added to the fish created problem.
The incident has sparked widespread concern regarding the safety of food. Allegations have already been raised that chemicals like phosphorous are being used to preserve fish instead of ice. Such kind of fish preserved using carcinogenic and banned substances are being marketed as fresh fish.

Addressing the BJP Council meeting here, he said his government's mission of 'sabka sath, sabka vikas' is not a political slogan but a commitment to ensure welfare of the last man in the society.
In his speech, Modi spoke at length about secularism, balanced and inclusive growth and need for electoral reforms while paying tributes to Upadhyay on his 100th birth anniversary.
"These days, the definition has been distored. Even nationalism is cursed these days," he said.
While talking about life and contribution of Upadhyay, Modi quoted him as saying, "don't reward nor rebuke Muslims. Empower them. They are not items of vote market nor are they substance of hate. Treat them as your own."
At the conclusion of the two-day BJP conclave here aimed at making inroads in Kerala, the Prime Minister traced the party's journey from the days of Jan Sangh and asserted that "we never compromised with our ideology".
He said if the BJP had compromised with the ideology, it could have attained power long back.
Modi slams attacks on BJP, RSS workers in Kerala
KOZHIKODE: Condemning the attacks on BJP and RSS workers in Kerala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday said they were being targeted for their different ideology which cannot be allowed in a democracy and pitched for a nation-wide debate on the issue.
Paying homage to those killed in political violence, Modi, who released a book 'Ahuti' detailing the "sacrifices" of workers in "upholding the ideals" of Sangh organisations in Kerala, said, "I have seen the condition of some workers here and with how much difficulty they are working just because we have a different ideology."
Referring to BJP-RSS workers who were targeted in the state, he urged media to take out time to go through the contents of the book.
Though he did not name any outfit, BJP, including its chief Amit Shah, have blamed the CPI(M) for attacks on its and RSS functionaries.
Modi also met a party worker who was seriously injured and spent three months in hospital.
"This (violence) is not the road to democracy.
The Aahuti book must be discussed ... Kerala party workers have made huge sacrifices ... national level discussion should take place on what is happening in Kerala," the Prime Minister said, while inaugurating the birth centenary celebrations of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya.
Earlier, inviting Modi to release the book at party's national executive, party Organisational General Secretary Ramlal claimed 89 BJP-RSS workers have been killed by the political opponents particularly by Marxists and in rest of the figures are higher.
The book, conceived and edited by Sanju Sadanandan and Nirupaka B, alleged that communists indulge not only in "unbridled violence and bloodshed for furthering their thoughts of vengeance buy resort even to the dilution of anything which can remotely be termed as their ideology".
The book was released at the meet attended by around 1700 party leaders who arrived here from different parts of the state.
"For several decades Sangh and BJP workers sacrificed their lives for the cause of the nation and ideology.
"The whole nation is shocked by this political violence," BJP president Amit Shah wrote in his message in the book.
Shah alleged that the Communists unleash violence in the state as their ideology and politics are rejected by the people of the country.
"It is a well-known fact that communists have never tolerated any democratic opposition.
"They only know language of violence and indulge in it more so when they are in power," party's Kerala state President Kummanam Rajasekharan alleged.
The book narrates events of "Marad Massacre" in 2002 and 2003 in which some RSS-BJP workers were killed by fundamentalists.
