THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former Minister Mani could return to Kerala ministry, if the situation that had led to his resignation no more exist, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said. The chief minister said this on Tuesday when media persons asked him whether Mani would present the budget this time as Vigilance had submitted a report in the court, giving him a clean chit.
“What was the situation that had forced Mani to resign? It was his personal choice. If that situation ceases to exist, he could come back,” the Chief Minister intoned.
“I had earlier said that K M Mani is not an offender in any way. I came to know about Vigilance SP’s report, acquitting Mani, only when media persons told me,” he said.
Meanwhile, the chief minister said any action against JSS General Secretary A N Rajan Babu would be taken after discussing the issue with all UDF allies.

New generation films rewriting conventional concepts: Lenin Rajendran
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran film maker Lenin Rajendran has said there are many good sides to new generation cinema. The exponents of the new generation cinema have been able to rewrite the way in which a theme used to chosen and the way in which a story used to be told. “They proved that a story can be said in that way also. Among them, some are good and some are dud,” he said at a meet-the-press programme held at Kesari hall.
Among the new generation film directors, there are also people who make an exact copy of foreign films. “This has happened from time to time. I have taken cinemas about isolated people. The next film will also be of that kind. Unlike the normal perception, I didn’t see Swathithurnal as a superhuman, while making film about the king. I saw him as the person who had turned against the era in which he lived. ‘Makaramanju’ showed the weakness of artist Ravivarma and the mental torture he had to undergo in his period. In Kulam, Marthandavarma was not eulogised. Edavapathy was also a search on the life of those who had been alone in life. The film is also about the dream and pain of Tibetan refugees,” he said.

Decision on transfer of higher secondary teachers after seeking Tribunal’s opinion: Rabb
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Education Minister has said that a final decision on transfer of Higher Secondary teachers will be taken after seeking Tribunal’s opinion. He said at a press conference here on Monday that the above decision was taken after teachers’ organisations came up with different opinions.
“The Education department’s decision was that when the order comes the teachers should join vacant posts and others should join after the annual examination. But teachers’ organisations had expressed their differences of opinion, following which the ministry decided to get Tribunal’s opinion,” he said.

Woman killed, son injured in scooter accident
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman was killed and her son injured when a KSRTC bus knocked down the scooter on which they were travelling at Attakulangara on Sunday. The dead has been identified as Shaila Kumari (48) of Pappanamcode. Her 12-year-old son, Roshan, who was riding pillion, was injured in the accident. The driver of the bus, Shajimon, has been taken into custody.
Microfinance fraud: Verdict on VS’ plea on Jan 20
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram vigilance court will pronounce the verdict on opposition leader V S Achuthanandan’s plea seeking a probe on the irregularities in the microfinance project under the SNDP Yogam, on January 20. The vigilance submitted in the court a secret report on the irregularities worth 80 lakhs under the cover of the project. District officials of backward development corporation have a role in it, the vigilance said.
VS plea has demanded to register a case against SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan, president Dr M N Soman, finance co-ordinator K M Maheshan, backward development corporation former managing director N Najeeb after making them accused in the case.
VS had alleged that those including Vellappally had conducted a fraud of Rs 15 crore during 2003 and 2015. The vigilance had earlier informed the court that though a departmental action was recommended against corporation’s former MD N Najeeb, it could not be implemented as he had retired from service.
