7 Things Your Teeth Say About Your Health

Turns out that your teeth, gums, and surrounding tissues also have plenty to say — about your overall health. This just means, dental problems aside, bad teeth could signal problems your body is facing.
“Your mouth is connected to the rest of your body,” says Anthony Iacopino, dean of the University of Manitoba Faculty of Dentistry and a spokesperson for the American Dental Association. “What we see in the mouth can have a significant effect on other organ systems and processes in the body. And the reverse is also true: Things that are going on systemically in the body can manifest in the mouth.”
Flat, worn teeth plus headache
Many people are surprised to learn they’re tooth-grinders. After all, they do this in their sleep, when they’re not aware of it. And they underestimate the physical toll that stress can place on the body. “Crunching and grinding the teeth at night during sleep is a common sign of emotional or psychological stress,” says Iacopino.
You can sometimes see the flatness on your own teeth, or feel it with the tongue. Or the jaw may ache from the clenching.
What else to look for: Headaches, which are caused by spasms in the muscles doing the grinding. Sometimes the pain can radiate from the mouth and head down to the neck and upper back, Iacopino says. Mouth guards used at night can relieve the symptoms and protect teeth
Cracking, crumbling teeth
Older adults, especially, are vulnerable to teeth that appear to be cracking or crumbling away. The enamel becomes thin and almost translucent. But this erosion isn’t a normal consequence of aging. In fact, it can happen at any age.
Disintegrating teeth are usually caused by acid that’s coming up from the stomach and dissolving them, Iacopino says. The cause: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, also called acid reflux disease). GERD causes stomach acid to back up into the esophagus — and from there, it’s a short distance to the mouth for some of the damaging acid. GERD is a chronic disorder caused by damage or other changes to the natural barrier between the stomach and the esophagus.
What else to look for: Dry mouth and heartburn are related GERD symptoms. (But in an older adult in someone else’s care — in a nursing home, for example — these complaints may go unreported.) Cracking or chipping teeth in a younger person is also a telltale sign of bulimia, the eating disorder in which the sufferer causes herself (or himself) to vomit before digesting. Same net result: Stomach acid washes up into the mouth, over time disintegrating the tooth enamel.
Gums growing over teeth
If you notice your gum literally growing over your tooth, and you’re taking a medication for heart disease or seizures or you take drugs to suppress your immune system (such as before a transplant), it’s well worth mentioning this curious development to your prescribing doctor.
“A swelling of the gums to where it grows over the teeth is a sign the dosage or the medication need to be adjusted,” the ADA’s Anthony Iacopino says. Certain drugs can stimulate the growth of gum tissue. This can make it hard to brush and floss, inviting tooth decay and periodontal disease.
What else to look for: The overgrowth can cause an uncomfortable sensation. In extreme cases, the entire tooth can be covered.
Dry mouth
Many things can cause dry mouth, from dehydration and allergies to smoking and new medications. (In fact, hundreds of drugs list dry mouth as a side effect, including those to treat depression and incontinence, muscle relaxants, antianxiety agents, and antihistamines.) But a lack of sufficient saliva is also an early warning of two autoimmune diseases unrelated to medicine use: Sjogren’s syndrome and diabetes.
In Sjogren’s, the white blood cells of the body attack their moisture-producing glands, for unknown reasons. Four million Americans have Sjogren’s, 90 percent of them women. Twenty-four million people in the U.S. have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, a metabolic disease caused by high blood sugar.
What else to look for: Other signs of diabetes include excessive thirst, tingling in the hands and feet, frequent urination, blurred vision, and weight loss. In Sjogren’s, the eyes are dry as well as the mouth, but the entire body is affected by the disorder. Because its symptoms mimic other diseases (such as diabetes), people are often misdiagnosed and go several years before being properly diagnosed.
Crusting dentures
Most people don’t connect dentures (false teeth) with pneumonia, other than to think they’re both words that often refer to the world of the elderly. And yet the two have a potentially deadly connection. “A leading cause of death in older people is aspiration pneumonia, often from inhaling debris around the teeth and dentures,” Iacopino says.
In aspiration pneumonia, foreign material is breathed into the lungs and airway, causing dangerous (even fatal) inflammation. Too often, the problem stems from people in the care of others — those in nursing homes, for example — who fail to clean dentures properly. Dentures need to be removed daily from the mouth, cleaned with a special brush, and stored in a cleansing solution.
What else to look for: A soft, crusty material developing around dentures. With proper cleaning, though, you don’t have to worry about other red flags. “It’s amazing. You can get a 100-percent reduction in what’s otherwise a leading cause of death for denture wearers,” Iacopino says.

Exercises for men to boost sex life

Working out three to four times a week can do a lot to help your sexual technique, flexibility, and endurance. So what types of exercise are best for better sex? Here are the highly recommended five “sex exercises.”
Sex exercise:
Weight lifting
Strength training could be just what the doctor ordered for your sex life. The reason – weight lifting causes the body to produce testosterone, which is the primary precursor for the male sex drive. In fact, some studies have linked short intense exercise, such as weight lifting, with increased testosterone levels. So go for push-ups, sit-ups and crunches. These muscle-building exercises can help lead to better sex by strengthening the shoulders, chest, and abs. Strong upper body strength can increase stamina since these muscles are used during intercourse.
Kegels
Doing Kegels is considered a good sex exercise for men because these exercises can help endurance and control by toning the pubococcygeus (PC) muscles – the ones that let you stop the flow of urine mid-stream. Named after Los Angeles physician Arnold Kegel, they strengthen the muscles in your body’s pelvic floor, which can lead to better sex. Men can use Kegels to delay ejaculation by contracting these muscles just before or*asm. To do Kegels, start by interrupting the flow of urine when going to the bathroom to get familiar with your PC muscles. After that, you can do Kegels anytime and any place by squeezing the PC muscles. Hold for 10 seconds, relax, and do as many reps as you can before tiring.
Yoga
Want to shake up your sex life with some new positions? Practicing yoga will give you better sex by allowing your body to get into creative positions for maximum pleasure during intercourse. Yoga poses that improve pelvic muscles are the Bow Pose, Peacock Pose (also called the Forearm or Elbow Balance) and Shoulder Stand.
Fast walking
In a study of 31,000 men over age 50, Harvard researchers found that aerobic exercise resulted in a 30 per cent lower risk of erectile dysfunction (ED). More specifically, according to another study, aerobic activity that burns at least 200 calories per day (equal to fast walking for two miles) can significantly lower the risk of ED. Brisk walking is thought to help ED by improving circulation and blood flow. Fast walking, running, and other aerobic activities keep your blood vessels clear. The result can be stronger and longer erections. Vigorous activities, such as running and brisk walking, also release endorphins and relax you, which can boost sexual performance.
Swimming
In another Harvard study of 160 male and female swimmers, swimmers in their 60s reported sex lives comparable to those in their 40s. Since sexual activity can be an act of endurance, long-distance swimming can keep you going and going like the Energizer bunny. Swimming for at least 30 minutes three times a week will increase sexual endurance and also lead to weight loss, which can also lead to better sex. A randomized, single-blind study of 110 obese men with ED found that losing just 10 per cent of their body weight improved sexual function in one third of the men. And it’s no secret that losing excess body fat will help attain those six-pack abs and make you more attractive to potential partners. The result: better sex!
Try doing some (or all) of the above workouts to improve your sexual technique, endurance, and flexibility. Your lover will be impressed with your sexual powers and, as a side benefit, you’ll get healthier and fitter along the way.

What causes Irregular Menstrual Bleeding ?

Ask any woman what she dreads the most each month, and she’ll mention menstrual cramps, bloating and PMS. But, what about those women who also suffer from irregular menstrual bleeding? Not only do they need to deal with the same menstruation issues as the others, but they’re also caught unaware and have to ensure that this irregularity isn’t a manifestation of some physical imbalances. Today, Dr. Madhu Goel, Consultant, Gynecologist at Rockland Hospital, New Delhi tells us what we need to know about irregular menstrual bleeding. Read on…
Understanding irregular menstrual bleeding
A normal menstrual cycle is usually regular. The duration of bleeding can vary from 2-7 days and the interval between 2 cycles (time between first day of 1 period and the first day of next) can be 28+_ 7 days. The average blood loss is about 60-100ml. Any deviation from this is considered abnormal menstrual bleeding.
Pregnancy and irregular menstrual bleeding
The most common reason of irregular menstrual cycle in reproductive age group is usually related to pregnancy. If you miss your periods, a pregnancy test is a must. Sometimes a pregnancy also occurs in an unsuspecting perimenopausal patient (near menopause). Also, if bleeding occurs after being overdue, it may indicate an abortion or something sinister like ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy outside the uterus). Hence, the first step is usually a pregnancy test.
Irregular cycles are also a common feature of the post-pregnancy period. While breast feeding, the periods may get delayed or be irregular. This is perfectly normal and not a cause of concern. But again, precautions against a fresh pregnancy is a must.
Perimenopausal period and irregular menstrual bleeding
Irregular cycles also occur in the perimenopausal period. While some changes in the cycle are acceptable and do not require treatment, others like excessive bleeding, bleeding in between cycles require further evaluation. Bleeding after attaining menopause is not normal and must be investigated.
Contraception and irregular menstrual bleeding
Certain forms of contraception can also result in irregular cycles. Post pill amenorrhoea is sometimes seen, that is even after stopping the pill there may be a period of no bleeding. Pills may also cause scanty bleeding or breakthrough bleeding (bleeding between cycles). IUCD (Cu T, Multiload) may also result in heavy or irregular bleeding. Injections given after childbirth for contraception may also cause irregular bleeding.
Weight issues and irregular menstrual bleeding
Significant weight gain or weight loss may also cause irregular cycles. Significant weight gain may also indicate the presence of a thyroid disorder . Thyroid disorders are very common in women and cause weight gain, irregular cycles, lethargy etc. Weight gain may also signify the onset of Polycystic Ovarian Disease which is a hormonal problem and may require treatment. Weight loss may indicate an underlying systemic condition like cancer, tuberculosis etc. Weight gain, or weight loss may also indicate various eating disorders like anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa.
Emotional stress and irregular menstrual bleeding
Severe emotional stress is seen in cases of exams, loss of job, loss of someone dear etc. These can also cause irregular bleeding.

Say Goodbye to Dandruff.

Every time you comb your hair or wear your favourite LBD, you are erm…embarrassed by those snowy flakes. Dandruff is ugh and causes problems like itching and acne.
Here are some homemade remedies that will help you get rid of dandruff.
The cause
Dandruff is a scalp ailment and can be cured by keeping your scalp clean. Avoid shampooign your hair everyday to keep dandruff away. Another way is to skip fried foods and chocolates.
Home remedies
Boil a few neem leaves. Cool and then filter the solution. Use this as a last rinse after you shampoo. You can also mix a few sweet neem leaves with basil (tulsi) leaves, grind it into a paste and apply it on your hair for half an hour. Wash this off to get lustrous, dandruff-free locks.
Grandma’s advice
Soak a handful of fenugreek (methi) seeds overnight in water, grind it to a fine paste in the morning and apply it for a half hour on your scalp. Wash this off with soap-nut (reetha) solution and rinse with shikakai to condition. Follow this regimen faithfully for beautiful tresses.
Bedtime care
Boil beetroot (chukander) in water and gently massage the liquid into your hair before sleeping. You can also massage your hair with stale curd or a simple concoction of lime and amla juice. Curd is an excellent conditioner, while lime keeps that dandruff away.
Steam therapy
This is the most commonly used way to tackle dandruff and mostly never fails. Gently massage warm coconut oil onto your scalp. Apply the juice of two limes. Now, dip a towel in hot water and cover your scalp and hair with it. Wash it off after two hours for soft, shiny hair. Alternately, apply the paste of raw papaya on your hair and leave it on for ten minutes before shampooing.
There you are! Try these homemade tricks to get rid of dandruff forever.

Eye exercises

Eye care is a much-debated subject with many techniques being introduced or re-introduced quite frequently. The following is a simplistic version of the exercises, many of which can be practised at home or work.
1. Keep blinking frequently and look up and look far. This relaxes the ciliary muscles which adjust the eye lens.
2. Make sure that your television, monitor, or book does not produce a glare.
3. Ultra-violet rays prematurely age your eyes. Make sure you wear your sunglasses when going outdoors.
4. Cigarette ash and automobile pollution irritates your eyes and reddens it. Do not wear contact lenses in such places.
5. Try cupping your palms around your eyes, gently without allowing any light for 10 minutes, three times a day.
6. If your eyes feel tired, go to a basin, cup your palms with cool water and splash them on your eyes. It provides instant relief.
7. Or, take couple of ice cubes, cover them in a cotton cloth and place it on your eyes. Relax. Let it be for 10-15 minutes.
8. Raise your shoulders in a circular motion do it for a couple of minutes. Likewise, rotate your head start with the chin down, raise it to your left shoulder, swing your head back, the other shoulder and lower it. Do it the other way round too. This is good to boost circulation around the eye muscles.

How A Wife Can Control Her Husband?

The best way a wife can control her husband is by not making him realise that he is been controlled. Please him in many ways and he will be madly and deeply yours. Those sweet words and romantic answers can cheer up his mood each day and make him listen to you and only you all through his life.
Today, we will suggest a few ways that can help you be a dominant wife without losing your time and energy. If you want to be a queen in your partner’s eyes sneak a peek.
Ways A Wife Can Control Husband -
1. Cooking - Prepare good food and get things done by your partner your way. Most men melt for three basic things and that is food, money and beauty. You prepare good food, serve them with smile and they are ready to accept anything you ask.
2. Gifts – Buying them something that they always wanted and then acting as though you are requesting them will get your wishes fulfilled easily. Men often don’t get gifts and if they receive it should be by their parents, siblings or wife so using the plan can benefit at times.
3. Beauty – The “husband in control” mantras that we are listing needs to be applied according to situation as the mood swings of men also matter. A beautiful wife can control her husband with ease as men are simply bowled over by the attractive looks. Men get tamed with physical intimacy and lose out their independence in no time.
4. Be Independent – One of the ways wives can control their husbands is by being financially independent. Freedom in terms of money can make a lot of difference in a family. He who is independent can think different, get real and plan practical. Men would respect women who have their own identity and status, they would value their views and respect feelings.
5. Caring – Men always like women pampering them. Massaging, giving them a bath, washing and ironing their clothes once in a while will impress them and make them say yes to your thoughts.
These relationship advices are not just to keep husbands in control but also help women to have a good understanding with partner. There are peaceful ways to get men in your way and these are the top best.

How To Deal With Life After Divorce?

Although marriages are made in heaven some make life as bad as hell. Not all people are blessed with good partners for life, some turn to show true colours after the wedding day and at that time it is too late to rewind whatever happened. When couple plan to take a divorce, men become free and are open to options but women are always on the wrong side. They are branded as dominating, careless, mentally unstable, rude and much more. Today, we will discuss on how a divorcee can deal with the new life and move away from the past. Take a look.
Ways To Deal With Life After Divorce
1. Seek Peace And Balance – Now, you are single and have been through terrible times so learn to seek peace through meditation and relaxation courses. Get a balance to your life and prepare your mind for a fresh start. It is not difficult to live life single as there are ample opportunities to frame all the bits and pieces of your broken life.
2. Get Busy – It is very easy to forget past if your mind is busy so get out of doors and struggle your way by getting into a job or continuing with education. If you have planned to live single and already have children, you need to earn and manage your expenditures. Remember, that it is very easy to give up but extremely hard to keep up with good work.
3. Be Happy – Understand that the decision was only for good and be open to new friendship as people will help you to see life from a different angle. Become a member of a social network and start sharing your experiences with people who feel will help you. When you share happiness or worries, you will feel lighter and confident.
4. Be Open To New Relationship – Just because you had a horrible married life, it doesn’t mean you can never find love or a partner of your kind. Feel positive and think that all that happens, happens for good.
5. Do Not Make The Same Mistakes – Now that you have found a good partner, do not commit the same mistakes that led to the divorce. Try to live simple and be humble to the person you love. Bad attitude is the only cause of many divorces.
Don’t be tagged as a divorcee as it will have a negative impact wherever you go and whatever you do. Try to save your marriage as much as possible as life after divorce is even more problematic than a bad marriage.

Heart Health Drinks for Navratri

Amongst the Hindus feasting and fasting takes priority over all normal daily activities.
To lower cholesterol and improve your heart’s health, don’t just think healthier foods - think healthier drinks too.
Here are some beverages that you should probably be drinking this Navratri, in your quest of a ‘hearty health’ -
Water - Water is the ideal beverage, with zero calories, and 100% hydration! Aim to have 6-8 cups each day. If plain water isn’t your thing, why not liven it up a little with a few slices of lemon, lime, or cucumber? Or, if you go for flavored water, be sure to check the nutritional label, as they can be very high in sugar, or artificial sweeteners.
Milk - Low-fat milk or soymilk are also healthy beverage alternatives, and considering most of us don’t get enough calcium, a glass of milk each day can be particularly useful. If you opt for soymilk, look out for the calcium enriched version. Sterol-fortified milks are available, which can be useful if you’re trying to lower cholesterol levels.
Whole fruit juice - When you are choosing fruit juice, select those that are 100% whole with no added sugar. A small glass (4 ounces) makes up one serving, which is the recommended daily amount.
You can also purchase a sterol-fortified version, which will help to lower high cholesterol levels, and reduce inflammation – a process which plays an important role in the development of heart disease.
Grape Juice - If wine is good for your heart, shouldn’t grape juice be, too? Like all fruits and vegetables, grapes are loaded with nutritional goodies that can reduce your risk of heart disease. However it is not well-established that grape juice provides the same benefits as wine.
All fruit and vegetable juices provide heart-healthy benefits, though it is easy to drink more juice than you realize, toting up lots of calories along the way. If you’re looking for the benefits of juices, it’s probably better to just eat the fruit.
Java coffee - The data on coffee has been less consistent, with some studies showing a distinct benefit from moderate consumption, others suggesting it doesn’t make much difference either way - and a few indicating that coffee increases blood pressure and risk of heart attack. However, an overview of the research is reassuring that moderate coffee consumption does not pose a problem for most people.
In fact, the antioxidants in coffee are probably good for your heart, experts say. People sensitive to caffeine, however, may find that it raises blood pressure or causes palpitations. If you think caffeine may be causing your elevated blood pressure, Levine suggests simply switching to decaf for a few weeks to see if it helps.
Tea - Like coffee, tea has plenty of antioxidants. The health benefits of tea may have been overblown, however. Some observational studies have indicated that tea—green or black—might help reduce the risk of heart disease. Green tea contains several powerful antioxidants that lower cholesterol and perhaps even blood pressure.
To make a day’s supply, bring 20 oz water to a boil, drop in three decaffeinated green tea bags, cover, and steep for 10 minutes. Remove the tea bags, and refrigerate the tea. When cool, pour the tea into a container, add ice if you like, and sip throughout the day.
Drinks of this variety pack a punch for your heart, while fizzy beverages or energy drinks can be trouble-makers. When thirst strikes, choose wisely – after all, these are matters of the heart!

Real Leather Bags: A Fashionable Trend

A bag, whether a handbag, a shoulder bag or a shoulders bag, is a necessity of almost every female. In the meantime, one type of bags-real leather bag becomes a fashionable trend in this season. Actually, the real leather is always the fashionable element in every season.
Today, I want to introduce three types of retro-real leather bags to you and I am sure you will be attracted by them.
The mature and noble type comes first. Usually, middle-age women will choose this type. Why? As we all know, this age group of women are mature and have rich life experience. Then, this style just can embody their characteristic. The structure of this type is quite concise and has no many decorations. Meanwhile, the classic black and deep red colour also give people a sense of mature and elegance.
The second type is the shoulders bag for office ladies and business women. As the whole, this type of real leather bag is a little smaller, which just expresses its exquisite characteristic. Whether office ladies or business women, they, usually, have to take part in some official and formal occasions, such as business party, business negotiation and that sort of the thing. Then, this type will be the perfect choice. Generally speaking, classic black and deep red are chosen more often. All in all, this type of real leather shoulders bag gives people a sense of elegance, sexiness and grace.
The third real leather type is design for young girls, which has exquisite and fashionable appearance. At the same time, there are some extra decorations, such as some beautiful but small pendants, golden laces and something like that. Many young girls love to go window or have date with their boyfriend. Then, this type of fashionable real leather bag is absolutely first choice.
The last but not the least is how to buy this kind of real leather bags. After all, the real leather bags will cost you a big sum of bucks. Maybe, you can think about buying them online. It is the common sense that buying online will save you a lot than buying in real shops. In addition, it is also a convenient way and can save your valuable time.

Fossil raindrops reveal Earth’s early atmosphere

Some things never change. An analysis of a fossilised rain shower suggests air density on early Earth was broadly similar to today’s - making it difficult to explain why Earth was warmer than it is now when the sun shone less brightly.
Around 2.7 billion years ago, a volcanic eruption left what is now South Africa blanketed in soft ash. Before it hardened into rock, light rain left imprints in its surface. Using a pipette full of water, fresh volcanic ash and mathematical modelling, Sanjoy Som at the University of Washington in Seattle worked out how the size of imprints related to the speed at which the rain fell through the ancient atmosphere. They say air density was probably no greater than 1.3 kilograms per cubic metre - comparable to today’s 1.2 kg/m3 .
This creates a stumbling block for those who thought the solution to the faint sun paradox lay in a dense early atmosphere. The faint sun could have kept early Earth warm with the help of a thick blanket of greenhouse gases. That explanation now seems moot. “The ‘faint young sun’ paradox remains,” says Som.
