High profile contestants in the fray include Chief Minister and CPM veteran V.S. Achuthanandan (Malampuzha), UDF's chief ministerial contender and Congress leader Oommen Chandy (Puthupally), KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala (Harippad), state Home Minister and CPM Polit Bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan (Thalsssery) and senior BJP leader O. Rajagopal (Nemom).
Polling Started in kerala
The total number of voters is 2, 31, 47, 871 who will cast their votes in 20,785 polling stations. The polling will be held from 7 am – 5 pm and the counting of votes will be held on May 13 as per the election schedule.The 2.2 crore electorate, including 1.19 crore women, will pick from among 971 candidates including 78 women.
