Endo Sulfan, LDF Hartal ON Friday

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

CPI-M in Kerala today called a hartal in the state on April 29 in protest against the Centre’s not taking steps to ban endosulfan insecticide.

The hartal has been called coinciding with the concluding day of the international convention for a ban on persistent organic pollutants at Geneva.

“The hartal is in protest against the Centre not taking steps to ban the pesticide which has caused environmental and health hazards in Kerala”, Vaikom Viswam told reporters here.

Usage of the pesticide in cashew plantations in Kasaragod district led to the death of more than 400 persons and chronic health problems among the local population numbering about 4000, he said.LDF convener added that no further study was needed into the issue and demanded a stern decision from the Centre. The harmful effects of the pesticide can be seen not only in Kerala but in many other parts of the country

Endosulfan is banned in 17 countries and it has been severely restricted in another 22 countries! But, Honorable spoke-persons of Indian Govt. say that...

"We don't have enough reasons to ban it in entire India, though there is no alternative-products for Endosulfan to use on cultivation and moreover it harmfully affected ONLY a very small region of this big country! It's not a problem of Endosulfan but the problem of the usage-manner in the affected zone!"

Here is the shameful face of respective Indian leaders! There is no wonder, if the family members of Endosulfan-victims enter into Terrorism against this 'inhumane-government move'. I might support them.

All of us must be aware about the pressing need to ban Endosulfan, and thus, in our own ways, try and oppose the stand our country has taken at an international level, which is totally unacceptable in the court of human justice.
