Sex education to be introduced from school level


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sex education will be started from the school-level, it was decided at a meeting on the proposed ‘Nirbhaya’ project held here on Tuesday.
Convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the meeting also decided to expand the definition of ‘trafficking’. The policy framework of ‘Nirbhaya’, which aims at preventing abuse of women and minor girls, will be presented to the Cabinet by including recommendations made by the public and NGOs.
The Chief Minister made it clear that the ‘Nirbhaya’ scheme would be implemented at the earliest. Prompt action by the police was called for in cases involving sexual abuse.
A fasttrack system to handle cases and rehabilitation facilities are of paramount importance, he said. Ministers P K Abdu Rabb, M K Muneer, poet and activist Sugathakumari and activist Sunitha Krishnan were among those present.
