No Central nod for Kochi-Bangalore gas pipeline

Sunday, January 29, 2012: The Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) has denied permission for the proposed Kochi-Bangalore Gas Pipeline.
The Ministry took the decision as the Koottanadu forest division in Palakkad district, through which the pipeline passes, is under litigation. The project aimed to supply gas from the LNG terminal in Puthu Vypeen to Bangalore and Mangalore. The case is on the ownership of the forest division.
The pipeline takes deviation from Kottanadu to Bangalore and Mangalore. The total length of Kochi-Bangalore-Mangalore gas pipeline is 1168 kms. The coast of the pipeline, which passes through three states and 15 districts, is Rs 3263 crore. The plan was to commission the project in December 2012.
