Will quit if chargesheeted, Achuthanandan tells PB

Tuesday, January 17, 2012: CPM stalwart VS Achuthanandan on Tuesday wrote to the party’s polit buro saying that he will quit as leader of the opposition in the state assembly if he is chargesheeted in the case relating to charges of irregularities in a land allotment.
In the letter, VS made it clear that the case was concocted and has not violated any rules while allotting land. The Vigilance team investigating the case relating to the land allotment row had initiated further probe proceedings against him.
It is alleged that 2.33 acres of land in the northern Kasargod district was given to Soman, an ex-serviceman, at below the market value. The land was allotted in 2010, with a rider that it could not be sold for 25 years.
